You either read Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto and sympathize with it just like a pinko, or you didn't read it and therefore are one of the ill informed who should not vote.

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness.

Do your wife and child have USA visa's or passports? If not the US government just announced it would take 100,000 Ukrainian refugees.
I would be calling my congressman's and/or Senators' offices nonstop as others have suggested if I was in your position.

I would definitely blow up their phones. You should be ahead, since they already know your situation.

I think people underestimate the pull of normal life in times of crisis. "I can't leave, we have the IVF" or "We can't leave, nothing will happen and I'll lose my job." Until you're truly up against it those things are very powerful. And deep down most people have a fear of overreaction, they don't want to be the one person in their neighborhood who bugged out and nothing happened, etc.
I hadn’t really thought of this until you pointed it out, but it makes a hell of a lot of sense.

By all means keep posting updates. Just make them a bit less specific.
I definitely use some caution when messaging my wife or her sister.

Crazy that OTers have been smack in the middle of two of the biggest events of this century, both times trying to get their family out.

The wife and baby can travel to US. My problem will be with the wife's son or any other family member.
I thank both of you guys.
I have talked to people in the state department through the help of my Congressman. They have given me personal emails and phone numbers. It is definitely something I am going to stay on top of.

Sadly it factored into my decision as well. I was thinking of all the important things I needed to take care of in the states. I think you want to make yourself believe nothing is going to really happen.

I was aware and informed about what the media was saying. My wife and I made poor decisions, I have never argued that.
Lets talk about what fairy tales to believe in:
Scientist explain to us how life began. Lightning struck a primordial pool causing molecules to suddenly be able to reproduce and life began.
Scientist explain the origin of the universe. The entire universe was condensed in an infinitesimally small singularity, a point of infinite denseness and heat.
Suddenly, an explosive expansion began, ballooning our universe outwards faster than the speed of light. Then cosmic inflation came to a sudden and still-mysterious end. What was that mass doing before it exploded? Did that mass have a beginning or was it just sitting there infinitely? Why did the cosmic inflation end?
The Bible has hundreds of prophecies that have come true in great detail. You should research them so you can be informed.
There were thousands of witnesses to the fact Jesus walked the earth, even ones that were opposed to him.
Which fairytale do you choose to believe?
What do you base your hopes and dreams on?
Do you base your hopes and dreams on things of this world? Other people and governments? Yourself or your family? All of these things will either disappoint you or they will end at your death if not sooner.
I base my hopes and dreams not on religion but on what the Bible tells me. Those are two different things. There are many false religions out there actually misleading people from the truth.
I believe in the things that the Bible promises, everlasting life to the righteous. Rev 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”
My family can be taken from me at any moment but I have faith that I will be reunited with them again if they are. That is the fairytale I choose to believe. You have free will to choose your own.

UPDATE 3/24/2022
I heard very little today, but they are okay. The fighting is still heavy though.
Lisa did tell me that Russia was evacuating civilians in the city across the river from her. They were fighting in that city before they moved into Lisichansk. Of course you hear stories how they are holding Ukrainians hostage in Moscow, but I doubt that.
It appears Putin is moving on from his goal of killing Zelensky and putting a puppet regime in. I think he is realizing he won't be able to take Kiev. I credit poster Buck-Rogers for calling that one. He is now going to concentrate on the Donbas region where my family is.
This is the area that is holding up the negotiations right now for ending this war. Putin wants Crimea to be declared Russian territory and he wants the separatist areas of Luhansk and Donetsk to be given their independence. Zelensky is unwilling to give up any territory to Russia.
I think it is funny how Russia worded it. They said they are now going to concentrate on liberating the Donbas region. The areas controlled by the separatist since 2014 perhaps see Putin as a liberator but the rest of Donbas doesn't view him that way, at least not anymore.
My wife and her parents have lived under the soviet union, Pro-Russian rulers and Pro-European presidents. It really hasn't changed much from one to the next. The people in that area just go to work and school and live their life. Before the war my wife told me that half the people in Lisichansk wouldn't care who their government was run by. If anything the economy has gotten worse since 2014. Now that they have had their civilians killed, homes blown up and lost their jobs, I don't think they are going see Putin as a liberator.
It is unclear of what would constitute the Donbas region. The separatist before the war only controlled part of it. Do they want the whole region now? I don't know the answer to that, but if they do it will include Lisichansk. I can tell you that they are no longer welcome. The city's indifference before the war has changed after what Russia did. All Putin did was unify Ukraine against him.

Hopefully your family gets out soon, and the war ends.
People around the world are praying for those at war. The pope and all the bishops of the world united today to consecrate Russia and Ukraine the Immaculate Heart of MAry which is Jesus mother. The Fatima prophecies about 100 years ago made this request. It was done many times, but not correctly. This one seems correct.
The 2nd part of the prophecy is for we, the people, to attend mass, pray rosary, go to confession, and meditate on Christ's life (15 Mysteries of the Rosary) for 15 minutes on the First Saturday of the month 5 months in a row.
Now we need to do our part.
She said if this is done, then the world would have peace, if not, then things won't turn out well. She was right, we had WW2, and now are on the brink of WW3.
So we need to get our behinds in church to complete heavens' request. We are half way there.

Thank you. I hope I didn't come off as harsh, but it is amazing what underdogs can do when they have the will. The same will that kept them from running when they had the chance, is the same will that will help them prevail in the end. As always, I pray for you and your family and look forward to the day you post on here saying you all have reunited. Don't ever feel like there is nothing you can do and stay proactive.

UPDATE 3/26/22
I started taking sleeping pills my Doctor gave me but they don't work. Last night I fell asleep around 2am. I woke up at 4am and fell asleep again around 6am. At 8am I woke up to messages from Lisa.
"I spoke to Yulia (my wife) she said that she has decided not to evacuate."
Lisa tried to convince her to leave. Lisa has four friends that have left Lisichansk. One said it was difficult and scary but they are in Lviv now. Another said she was not going to leave until "I was sitting in the basement and my apartment hung in the air, then I decided to leave". Another said "Run while you can". Another wrote " I had to evacuate my family under shelling. She definitely needs to leave with children, everything will be destroyed."
I have had little contact with my wife. So I downloaded an app called telegram and called her son. I was then able to talk to her. She refuses to leave or even call the bus drivers. I fear she is making another terrible decision and I'm very upset right now. I can't make her leave and she could get killed leaving. Nobody can know for sure what the correct decision is, but I'm not happy she is staying.
I told her that I would find a way to her. She said that the city is surrounded by Russian troops and there is no way in for me.
I talked to my daughter on video. She just turned one, so she doesn't talk yet but I have to imagine she is confused why I am on the video phone and not with her. It is hard to hold it together.
All I can do now is hope her city doesn't turn into Mariupol. Russia will take control of the Donbas region and then they will negotiate with Zelensky. So I hope they take it quick and with little destruction. That doesn't appear to be likely.
I spent last night emailing different immigration lawyers, trying to find one that is up to date with the Ukrainian situation.
I'm mostly just trying to do something productive at this point. This feeling of your family is in a burning house and you can't go in to save them is driving me crazy. I'm kicking myself for leaving. All I can do is wait for this to end, but that is a very helpless feeling.
It has been a difficult morning. The good news is that they are still safe and well. They have food, water and utilities and a comfortable place to stay when they are not in the shelter. Lets hope this ends soon.
