I grew up in Shreveport. Been in NOLA for 30 years, but my parents are still alive and I go there often.
It has a lot of problems, no doubt. But there are nice neighborhoods, good people, and surprisingly good Mexican food. I love my hometown.

They have some nice historic areas around centenary and a few old churches...

I grew up in bossier and when my parents died a few years ago I said goodby to the area for good...

quote:AT&T moving the phone production out of the country didn’t help either. We move to south S’port near Southwood HS in the ‘79; the phone plant was in that area, and it was an average middle class area. We were there about 10 years ago and it was bad. The mall, South Park, had to close due to gangs and a church had acquired it. We had moved out of state in ‘87 and were glad we did and didn’t own that house anymore.
The gigantic Western Electric plant in Shreveport was once one of the country's biggest producers of telephones.

Although if Shreveport is in the rearview mirror because you're heading south down 49, then you're about 2 hours away from a bigger shithole - Alexandria

Still pisses me off that they let the Shreveport Captains baseball stadium go to shite

You're correct. The loss of Western Electric/AT&T cost that side of town dearly. Southwood is an awful school now. Mansfield road looks like a war zone in areas.

Wasn’t there an Exide battery plant on Mansfield Rd at one time?

Exide Plant was originally Ford Battery and a large employer. It closed and burned. Also Libby Owens Glass is closing.
It makes me sad. My grandmother's house overlooked the country club and both are in disrepair and abandoned. They were once both beautiful show pieces.

Give it a few years. It’ll be the norm everywhere.

went to some yard/ estate sales
If I had to guess, “nice neighborhoods” probably don’t allow “yard sales” so, there’s that.

quote:Shreveport is a shite hole. The fact that you live there doesn't make it not a shite hole. There are pockets of decent homes here and there, and a few decent restaurants but it is a garbage town filled with hood rats who would kill you for no reason at all. It's dirty, has been falling into disrepair for the last four decades, the schools suck (they have all sucked since the early 70's, the roads suck, the bridges suck, the VA hospital sucks, the fairgrounds suck, the Independence Bowl sucks, on abd on.
i live in shreveport
if you base your idea of the city off a yard sale and some potholes I can't help you
edut- what street was yard sale on?
But it has hot Southern Maid donuts and that counts for something, as long as you don't mind feeling like you gonna be mugged in the parking lot.
