All you people mentioning Ft. Jackson. Sometimes at the Columbia airport, I've spotted new recruits assembling in the baggage claim area. They look scared shitless.

My Basic Training Company, A 4/13 at Fort Jackson, had DS Love, DS Polite and DS Bright.

I was at Fort Sill back when basic was still all male. I'm from Port Sulphur, and both of my Drill Sergeants were from right up the road and they both singled me out in the chaos of the first night when we crossed the tracks. Drill Sergeant Regnor was from Marrero and Drill Sergeant Trueblood (you almost couldn't make a better name for a DS) was from the the ninth ward. The training was rough, but both were some of the best. I couldn't help but think about how small the world is. Out in Lawton Oklahoma both of my drill instructors were from the 504 also had visited little Port Sulphur multiple times.

DS Powers and Rojas in Leonard Wood. Saw Powers again in Afghanistan, and he was a CSM.
DS Saldate and Ulmer at Huachuca. I later rejoined them as an instructor, and we still talk to this day.

SSgt Roughan. Saw him lay a couple guys out. 100% all the time. He killed a dude during some water training a couple years later.
When was this?
In boot camp we had a dude drown in the pool.

Drill Sergeant Kendricks at Fort Jackson. Looked a lot like Damon Wayans and hated me as much as I hated him.
Stopped the bus after graduation to drop me in dress greens (shot him the bird out the window).
Drill Sergeant McDaniels was put on leave after attacking a dude from Anacoco for losing his weapon. Good memories

True, but I remember I couldn't wait to get to 'Relaxin Jackson' for AIT instead of Fort Sill in the summer which is comparable to at least the third or fourth level of hell.

I had one from Puerto Rico. It was at Ft. Benning in 1991. Puerto Ricon DI's are an angry group of people.

"Oh that's right, Pyle. don't make any fricking effort to get to the top of the obstacle. I guess if God had wanted you up there he would've miracled your arse up there!"
