Horse barn fires are tough because the horses instinctively don't want to leave the safety of the barn - even in a fire.
The Marine Base at Quantico had a 20's vintage barn with around 80 stalls. The barn was a fire trap, with a fire extinguisher for every four stalls. When Dad was stationed there, we kept three horses at the barn. Every night, the horses were let out to go into the corrals behind the barn.
There was an equally flammable hay barn next to the horse bar. Young Marine gets drunk and "jokingly" tosses a cig into the hay in the hay barn. The result was an instant out of control fire.
It spread quickly to the horse barn. However, the horses (including ours) were so used to going out to the paddocks that all the horses went out without issue and all survived. The huge fire burned the barns to the ground.

And these weren’t horses going out at night so even harder. I hate winter and daytime turnout for some many reasons, including the chance of fire overnight when there aren’t people there

I remember the fire being late in the day, but cannot remember whether it was dark.
The barns were never unattended, I think there was a third building that was a small barracks.

Ralph was a great character. Dude was hilarious

I have race customers for thirty years. They are worse than politicians. Scum of the Earth non truth telling bastards. Cut most of them off.
There is a family with racehorse’s near New Roads. Prominent only because their ancestors owned land that had gas on it.
Big fancy barn , estate , equipment. Got overextended living large. But he took the cowardly way and claimed bankruptcy.
Although he is no good, his niece has fire pussy. Lafayette. 1993.
