I just know because I worked on my uncles farm for a few summers / it was hard work but nice to be outdoors.
And my older cousin was on the rodeo team at McNeese.
I didn’t mean to come across as a smart arse. Sorry if it did

Those beef shanks are going to be so tender.

lot of money is thrown around at these.
I didn't choose to raise an animal but was in FFA. I did the mechanical projects. But my best friend did and eventually, his little sister. Both won Grand Champion at a local prominent festival and both eventually won Reserve at Fort Worth. Unprecedented around here.
But there was a trick. I've watched and participated in a method of subcutaneous fat fill in. You can gently insert a large syringe attached to an air compressor and inject air between muscle and hide. Fat fills in and molds the look of the steer. It was crazy. And that was in the 1980s.

Nah. Your post was more informative than the laughing post.

youth rodeo Steer
Kid keeps money for college. Showing for 4H is sort of travel ball for farm kids - there’s a lot that goes into it and only a few win.

At these larger market shows the student is capped on how much they receive and the remaining amount goes in the the shows general scholarship fund. In 2022 the Grand Champion Steer at the Houston rodeo sold for over $1 million, the kid only was allowed to keep 85,000
Edit: Looks like Fort Worth doesn’t cap the auction, great for that kid!
