Some people are passionate about certain things. They may spend their money on a fine speaker, and not care what they drive.
It all about what floats your boat.

What is the point of having a badass speaker system in your house?
Just curious

No way should a speaker cost more than your transportation.
Anyone with speakers like that will have a vehicle that's far more than those speakers.

As I type this, I am watching a live Phish show in my audio room at concert levels...gotta have capable equipment to achieve that.

My 12s in my speaker box in the trunk of my car in highschool was super sweet.
Was kinda aggravating when the vibrations made my rear view mirror fall off though.
For all you youngsters, they used to be glued in place and were electronic like now

I use the B&W 683s2 towers by themselves. I’m not a believer in Dolby Atmos. I suppose if you were outfitting a purpose built media room it may make sense. My purpose was best sound quality from a 2.1 setup. They do need to be paired with a good subwoofer as does any tower. The SVS one I mentioned is extremely responsive, you can listen to it at the same place too.

I had an AV company install my sound and home theater in my previous house, and they picked out Polk RTi bookshelf speakers for the fronts. I questioned the size and was told they were good for that situation. And they were. In fact they were overkill.
Have the same system in my current house, which is smaller. Never have to turn the volume up far.

IMHO your ears are going to hear different freq than mine so opinions on speakers is a tough ask.
Grab a few good recording of your favorite songs and go give a listen to serveral brands. Def tech are a great brand but so is Paradigm, Klipsch, Polk, PSB, Energy, and many, many others. A good set of speakers will last decades so listen before you buy.
Also if you are buying for music then towers are great, if it’s for movies then bookshelves and a great sub can work as well. Definitely do not skimp on the center channel, get the biggest one you can fit, there’s a TON of info that only comes out of that speaker in 7.1
I have a dual 6.5 Polk center, Polk bookshelves and a HSU sub. Used to have towers but downsized, really do t listen to music at home anymore.
My 2 cents.

I worked with a guy who built/developed professional studios, theaters, stages, almost exactly what you are talking about. Hate to break it to you but the speakers are about 1/10th as important as the receiver/amplifier. The receiver/amplifier are what drive the consistent flow of both power and sound and if you don't have either or both (receiver/amplifier) good enough to power the speakers then you're putting a Kia engine in a 911.
We usually traveled with no speakers and just used whatever the venue had but stripped the boards/amplifiers to the speakers because they had garbage power supply. We could make $299 surround sound from walmart sound just as good as the speakers you're talking about due to our gear.

Generally components should be matched in quality/price...but yea, shitty amplification gets you nowhere.

If you like Definitive Technology you may want to check out GoldenEar Speakers. The two guys behind GoldenEar where two of the three co-founders of Definitive Technology.

MK sound makes the best sounding speakers i've ever heard.

Several years ago, I set up a pair of Tekton M-Lore's with a Peachtree Decco65 amp for music listening. I couldn't believe the sound. I ditched all surround sound equipment after the install, as I found this simple stereo setup superior for both music and TV. Tekton speakers use Marshall bass amp drivers, I believe, and they are super sensitive, not a lot of power needed to drive them.

You really only need to post there for actual music topics. This is the right board for your question.
There's a megathread on there about listening rigs. It's more geared to 2.0 setups, but most the folks there at least know a good bit about surround compared to the majority Home Theater in a Box crowd.
