This entire family sounds completely screwed up. And like someone said earlier - the only thing that’s certain here is that it ends badly for everyone involved.

Yeah, it's definitely looking that way. The only solution is marriage, and he's too wishy-washy on that. For the record, this is my stepson -- my real son would never get himself into anything like this

Maybe this should have been something he explored prior to enlisting.
At the end of the day, the biological father has some rights over the kid; even though he chooses not to exercise them. For that, it makes sense that mom can't bring him out of the country, much less have him be supported by DOD.
