Usually nothing, but sometimes I get bored of eating the same flavor for an hour. Mixture of ketchup and Tabasco.

Nothing. I went to a seafood market a few weeks ago and got some boiled crawfish. They gave me their "house sauce" for dipping. It was basically a mix of mayo and tabasco. I was SO fricking confused. WTF?

Nothing. I might could see dipping it in cocktail sauce if it wasn't seasoned well.

This. Mixed with Tabasco

I'm from south Louisiana and we have this all the time.

Didn't know it was weird or taboo...

Either way, I enjoy the hell out of some crawfish and now I'm craving them little bastards at 0500 ...

That's because out there on the Cajun Prairie they really don't know how to boil crawfish very well but think they're the be-all, end-all.

In all my life I have never been to boil where they didn't have dip. It is always mayo ketchup based with additions. Some people add worstershire, mustard, horseradish, hot sauce.

Every time I've ever eaten crawfish at a restaurant in Terrebonne or Lafourche they have always had dip. I've been to catered events in Morgan City and Luling and they had dip. My moms family in Vacherie all have dip. I never knew it was a thing to not have dip at a boil.

Sometimes I eat crawfish straight out the shell, sometimes I'll peel a few and run them through a little dip, put it on top a saltine cracker with a little piece of onion or garlic and make a little crawfish cracker shooter.

Jesus that would be such a slow process. I can hammer out 5-7 lbs of crawfish pretty damn quick. No way I'm about to go through some sort of dipping/cracker making concoction a couple hundred times while eating. Wouldn't this completely take away from the taste of the crawfish? Seems pointless to even season them in this case. Been living in South Louisiana all my life and have never seen this at a house or restaurant.

I serve a lot of people crawfish and go anywhere. It's about 50/50 on those that use sauce. I always bring it unless the host specifically says not to

We almost never have dip at my family's crawfish boils. Every once in a while, someone will decide they want some and make it. I'm not a fan of it for crawfish.

I do like it with shrimp, though.

I don't participate in crawfish eating contest, I like to sit down and enjoy my meal. I'll eat half with no sauce and half on crackers.

In my family if you take the time to dip your crawfish, you won't get many crawfish because we are a bunch of fast peeling coonasses. My wife learned that the first crawfish boil I invited her to when we first met. She used to be a dipper.
