By the way, this needs to be handled better than it was last time. If someone will just announce the time and place... I will stand in line all day just to sign. This needs to happen. Those of us who are raising our families correctly and trying to do good for the city and trying to promote the right ideals, no matter what we say on tigerdroppings, need a new place to call home.
Would love to see 20K baws and girls show up. Just like the Alton Sterling crowd made noise and got media attention, we can get it as well. And I am for any race, Creed, or religion as long as they live by the golden freaking rule. I refuse to pay my tax dollars to a completely bottomed out school system and to support the shite show that is the city of BR.
The people who I do feel somewhat sorry for are the BR business owners. Pastimes Pizza...Jesus, people are getting killed right by the damn place and business is only going to suffer and now their property taxes are going to be out the roof. Unfortunately, some of our favorite childhood and still lovable places to eat and drink are going to suffer tremendously.

that hits home for me...
when you come over the bridge right before the Washington st exit, look down over the guardrail at east blvd and you will see what once was my grandfathers grocery store. It was called Service Market and Grocery and was one of the last full service butcher shops in the city.
He raised seven kids that all went to college and supported dozens of extended family with that store. As kids we spent every Saturday helping out at the store and running around having fun. When he retired he sold it and ever since then it has gone to shite. Its dangerous even to pull in to the parking lot now, it's a full on hood trash liquor and blunts dive now
Breaks my heart that I can't even go in there to look at it

It’s appalling to me that people try to call supporters of this movement racist. It’s also great to see these people come out of their hiding places to show their bitterness towards people who want to improve he community in which they live.
Fortunately, this time there will be an election and the corrupt clerk of court won’t be able to stop it. They will have well more than the needed signatures and it will pass during the special election. The people that think their properties taxes will increase beyond their means or that the schools won’t be improved can exit to the North of the new city while people will move in droves to the new city.
I’m the end, the old Baton Rouge money that has corrupted our government and ruined the sense of commmunity that once existed will reap what they have sowed. Once they chose to move out of Baton Rouge proper they should be thoroughly blasted through every media forum available. Additionally, the Chambers of Baton Rouge will have complete control of their destiny and solve all of their problems how they wish. There will be no excuse when the school system of Baton Rouge suffers more while the new city thrives.
Finally, the corrupt and lazy Baton Rouge Poluce Department will have to focus on their crime infested areas instead of avoiding them. This is the change this parish needs. Thanks Mayor Broome for being such an idiot and race baiter. Thanks for being an empty suit. Thanks for furthering the divide in Baton Rouge proper and the unincorporated portions of the parish. You’ll get what you truly wanted but it won’t go how you expected. Welcome to Little Detroit!

don't give a shite. I'm signing this motherfricker the second I can this go round. I was on the fence last time. Not anymore
there is zero downside to signing the petition and getting the measure on a ballot.
you can always continue your research and decide not to vote for it

I can't wait to hear the response from the whiny little group of magnet school parents who don't give a shite about anyone else's education in the parish but their own kids.

I disagree and in all earnestness, this truly will kill some 4th, 5th, and 6th generation BR businesses. I hate that.
But i refuse to raise my kids in a SJW environment -- one that teaches anything white is evil and that everyone needs a trophy. I would work 8 jobs just to ensure mine can go to private schools and not rot in EBR where school zones are changed to make F's appear to be C's for school report cards.
Meanwhile, what is Warren Drake thinking or what was he thinking getting involved in EBR? That man must really love a challenge.

Wanting a better life for yourself is racist if you are white.

I only have one in a BR private school. If I could no longer afford it and couldn't sell my house I'd leave the keys in the door before I put my daughter in BR public schools (I'm not talking about magnet or BR High etc)

It's telling.
It's just a petition to get something into a ballot.

I doubt that seriously.

'm about to write my check for my 2 kids for next year in elementary school. $10,512.
most other places that would be cheap
Lol that's $10,512 more than it cost my two brothers and I to go to school.
That's fricking crazy.

Because they know what happens if it gets on a ballot. Once it's on a ballot, it's easy to get something passed. Nobody shows up to vote and you just rally the diehards out and you win. It's their fricking move. How do you think every fricking increase in property taxes gets passed?! Getting something on the ballot is the hard part. After that, it's almost a fait accompli.
They knew what would happen if it got on the ballot the last time around and it's why they pulled the shite they did. It threatens their power and their money and that can't happen.

How will keeping more middle/upper class people in the parish instead of out to the burbs be bad for local businesses?

I grew up in Denham Springs and lived there for 18 years. I’m not saying that Denham is the standard-bearer for state education, but we had very few kids leave for private schools (c’mon, we’re 20 minutes away from Parkview). The schools in Denham were great for me and my family, because the sense of community made ownership of the school system important.
I think that St. George can have that. Sure, it’ll be a long road, but that’s what communities dig in and do. You know your neighbors, your know the teachers, you know the administrators, and you hold all of them accountable.
The BR leadership had a chance to show us that community is more important than anything else. They had a chance to show us that politics are inconsequential to raising our children. Instead, they doubled down with an incompetent leader, backed the COA, and blamed racism.
Even though I’m 200 miles away, St. George has all my support.

I live in the LP and I couldn’t be any happier for the St. George supporters. I hope they pull it off this time and let BR be BR. From the leaders down to the drug dealers, watch BR implode.

Why would any parent take an active interest in the education of other people’s children before their own?

I live in BR and still hope it passes. Not all of BR is a shithole. Tara, Bocage, south of LSU would still be in the city. I'll move if my taxes rise to make up for the losses though.

And nothing is really stopping Ascension and Livingston from passing their own local taxes to improve their infrastructure either.
You know, other than essentially every road that actually goes from one end of the parish to the other being a state highway...
However, getting that Edinborne Parkway done has been a big help.
