Bavaria is quite beautiful. German beer and wine are excellent and the food is good. It's very clean and tidy too.
Switzerland is even more picturesque. Austria is right there too and worth seeing.

Spent a few weeks there—you’ll love it. About a 4 hr drive to Neuschwanstein castle and about 4-5 to Paris. Castles everywhere. Your wife will be in heaven. It’s quaint and beautiful.

Ramstein is an awesome place to visit.

You can get an ICE train to Paris from there and be there in under 2 hours.

If you have any interest in World War II you're about 2 and a 1/2 hours by car from Bastogne

Though I'm genuinely curious to hear why you're interested in Switzerland but not Germany. What does the former have that the latter doesn't, in your mind?
I'm more interested in the scenery, namely the Swiss Alps. I'm not a huge fan of German food, and I'm not a beer drinker, and couldn't care less about visiting historical sites and monuments and that sort of stuff. I just want to chill and enjoy the scenery and relax. Zero interest in visiting France, either.

Germany has the Alps too. And some amazing scenery.
And I wouldn’t make a judgment on German food since you’ve likely never had the real thing and it varies.
Also they have great wine. If you like meat Germany is a great place.

Some of the greatest Italian and Indian food I’ve ever had was in Germany, but even he local German places have fantastic roast chicken and beef. What is considered traditional German food is just a tiny part of what is available to eat there. Because of the abundance of bakery’s, always having fresh bread , and pastries at breakfast was fantastic. I don’t drink beer and didn’t see it as a issue. Switzerland, France, Austria, are all reasonable drives, why not see it all?

Well, my neighbors in PA were from Germany and I ate with them once in while. Don't get me wrong - I like it - but it's not my favorite. Not a fan of the sausages.

Will your son be living off base or in the dorms? What’s his job and what squadron is he going to?
The job is administration but he's not sure exactly what that will entail yet. He's currently in Biloxi for training. He'll be living off base in Ramstein. I see you mentioned that you were there for 4 years -- I thought it was 3 year stint?

No beer or wine and just want to sit down. Well alright then have fun

Yeah I'm a foodie, but not a drinker. Just plop me down next to a lake someplace with some picturesque mountains all around, and I'm good to go.

I could def give him some insight on off base living and the pros and cons of various villages. It’s generally a 2 year assignment for single airmen and a 3 year assignment for airmen with dependants, but I volunteered for an extended-long tour so so my family and I were there for 4 years.
The other posters are right about the food. The German food is good but there are so many other options. Some of the best Thai food I ever had was in Germany.
If he’s in school at Keesler then he’s likely in finance, personnel, or communications.
