Yep, nothing to do with him as a musician...
Anyways, I put him top 3, probably number 1 for me. If you haven't caught a Samantha Fish show do check her out. I always got some SRV vibes from her style

One of my greatest regrets is not going to a SRV concert when I was younger, and had the chance. Top 3 guitar player ever, in my book.

Pretty sure it was during the summer.

One of the very, very few things I can brag about in my life, is that I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan play in Austin, at this show:
It was pure luck. I just happened to be visiting Austin and discovered he was playing. I stood 10 ft from his amp, and it sounded amazing, but I thought my head was going to explode when he hit the high notes.
I also saw him play at the Greek Amphitheater in Berkeley. I remember that because of the open environment, he was having trouble getting feedback, so he kicked a sound baffle away from his amp and got the feedback he wanted.

Absolute savage. He had such incredible control over the instrument and was one of the GOAT at expressing emotion with an instrument. He could talk with it and you felt pain and suffering in the bends, vibrato, and aggression. Being a guitar player and gear nut you always go down the rabbit hole of gear that your favorite artist use to get their tone and he had such a monster tone with the most basic gear.
jesus christ... never seen that, and my passed pops was a huge SRV fan. That was like damn musical church watching that. Welp.. rest of my night is shot now. Headin down the rabbit hole.

Never noticed the Chi Phi house before in that video. Anyone know where that was shot or was it all a set? Damn this thread got my dander all up

Similar "dumb luck" story here. I was fortunate enough to be asked by a family friend to work selling seat cushions at a concert in April 1990 that would prove to be one of his last.
I was 14 at the time & had no idea who SRV was. This was just a nice way to earn a little money & getting into a free concert was just an extra bonus. The look on my father's face when I told him where I was going that day said it all...I was about to witness true musical genius.
Long story short...I probably did a shitty job selling seat cushions, but I was blown away to say the least. Talk about being spoiled by your first concert experience!

Yeah, we are getting out front on the August 27, 1990 anniversary. I had started a new job a few weeks earlier. Coworker walked in and told me, and I was floored.
Got to see him in Monroe on the Soul to Soul tour. Stood right at the stage. He sat on a monitor in front of us for a while and tore it up. It was on ULM campus, and almost no one attended. We loved the guy, drove in for the show, and couldn’t understand why the locals didn’t attend.
Had a couple over for dinner one night. I had SRV CDs in my Sony 5-disc player on shuffle. They were not familiar with him before that night, but they left at 8:30 so they could get to the record store before it closed at 9. They bought every SRV CD they had in stock.

The guy has a punchable face, but Marcus King has potential to play like SRV
