Looking to do a Labor Day last min trip to OB...get there Saturday come back Monday.

Outside of some rip tide in the gulf...should be good weather right? West side is the best side right?

The storm will be near the north Carolina coast Saturday. Do you people know how to read the forecast map?

Weather will be nice but the Gulf will be churning and increased tides. Already churning and big waves in Gulf Shores. I'm heading out to secure my oyster cages due to increased tides in Mobile Bay.

Is there an updated cone to look at, I want to see what my drive to 30a today will be like.

Barring any last minute shifts to the west, you should be fine. I'm heading the same way and wont be leaving until around 4. I did send the wife (no pics) and kids this morning just to be on the safe side.

Thanks IT, the "2" space" seems troubling. May reroute.

St. George Island's mandatory evacuation comes with a warning of an expected 4-7 foot storm surge. That would cripple that place for a bit

I'll be in Tybee Island, GA this time next week... Any thoughts on rip tides in that area?

I'm seeing a lot of the evacuation traffic, a bit east of St. George on the coast. The storm surge is the only real worry. This area had a 10 foot surge from Dennis and that hit Pensacola which is a long way away. Parts here still haven't recovered. We're supposed to evacuate but nobody is taking that very seriously. I doubt a 4-7 foot surge would really cripple St. George. The main road is well above that as are most houses. The fly in the ointment is high tide is 3 AM and it's a big tide too with the new moon so the timing is about the worst possible. I'll be surprised if the surge is only 5-7 feet.

The Apalachicola area seems to be the current heading looking at radar loops. Given the heading and speed in the most recent advisory, landfall would be at roughly 10PM.

actually looks a fair amount like that HRRR loop that rds posted earlier. Maybe a little less developed.

Recon finding winds near 80 kts at flight level about 150 miles to the east of the center. Wow

Yeah the east side is almost always going to be worse in the Northern Hemisphere, but it is even more pronounced in a system as disorganized as this.

You could be a half hour from where the eye makes landfall and probably not see more than 20MPH winds.
