I forgot about that. I wonder why the seismic shift to the straight flat cut?
Sadly, I know the answer to this. They switched to the "hinge" cut because it holds meatballs and the chunky style meats like chicken teriyaki better.

Franchises were cheap back in the day. Like 60k a store. That caused overpopulation of stores, along with what I assume were no territorial protection. That, plus the fact that a Publix (insert local grocery store here) sub is cheaper and uses boar’s head and not shitty meat, is a recipe for disaster

Fun fact: A lot of immigrants used to buy Subways because it was one of the only affordable franchises that passed the investment threshold. Now there's hundreds of different franchises (with better business models) that are around that threshold, the interest has died down a lot. Just another tidbit to consider. Source: My in laws immigrated here from Venezuela on an entrepreneurial visa and opened a Subway in Ft. Lauderdale.

The $5 footlong was a good value. Now you want top dollar for a medicore sub. Ergo....you will keep losing business.

Yes it can. I live in a small town and the politics hurt the local subway where I live. Subway has been having shitty food for many years.

Food and politics don't mix.

Probably shrinking because there are too many stores overlapping other store territories and lingering effects of coronavirus.

Im sure lots of people left because of Rapinoe. And don’t forget Serena Williams, Steph Curry, Charles Barkley, Simone Biles.. This is their new demographic they pitch too.

Used to be my go to fast food but haven’t been in years

I was watching the final late night with David Letterman on YouTube last night and they had a subway ad during the show that said subway was going to become the second largest restaurant in the US that year. That was 1993. Funny seeing this thread the next day after seeing that ad. Subway had explosive growth in the 90s.

The food sucks. That is usually not good for a restaurant. Maybe they should work on that.

Honestly don't know how they survive in places with more options
