Being a teacher would be a nightmare for the majority of posters on this board.
all these "badass" posters wouldnt last one minute in a inner city public high school in BR lol. all the kids would make fun of you and you couldnt do anything back to them.

I don't understand. Be like the rest of America and give an awkward wave and engage ignore mode.
I run into taxpayers I've audited before, it happens.

but they weren't forced into teaching. IT WAS THEIR DECISION. If they hate it so much, make a career move.
For everyone in this thread saying this...
Please go to the daily Oil and Gas / Plant Worker thread and tell them THE SAME THING. If I hear one more grown man whining about how he isn't getting triple time, that the note on his F350 is high or how cheap gas is screwing him I am going to throw my keyboard... Whew! I feel better.

Already have. Numerous times.
I feel the same about teachers.

Im student teaching currently, and this kind of teacher is the teacher that everyone hates because they will point out every flaw that goes on, where as 98% of the other people in the profession dont care.
For real?
I mean, I'm not a teacher so I can't attest, but of my 5 or so close friends who are teachers, 4 of them talk about it incessantly. My guess is that they do it among themselves all the time, which is why it is so pervasive (you lose perspective when you're in a bubble of other teachers who also bitch about teaching).

That's why they end up fricking the students.
Can't keep it in your pants, keep it at the school.

I would teach in "rich" school district because that's where I was raised and still have friends and family working for the school system. It's not what you know it's who you know and I know a lot of people

I went to an inner city majority minority school. I know it's not easy. But the shite this lady wrote is bogus.

I have read so many teacher threads on here in the past that I finally decided to post in this one.
I am in my second year teaching. I am at a great school and I am teaching pre-calculus and financial math. I absolutely love it. Sure some days are more challenging than other days, but I expect that from 16-18 yr old kids. I almost never bring work home with me because I maximize my time and off periods while I'm at school. I never go in the teachers lounge and subject myself to all the stupid gossip and bitching that I'm sure is going on. Instead, I'm in my classroom grading papers or making tests/quizzes so when I get home around 3:30, I have jack shite to do school related.

College professors don't complain because they're smart enough to recognize that being a professor is fricking awesome
My dream job is tenured English professor at a four year university. I don't care if that university is Harvard or Hendrix College. I'd kill for that job. Problem is: the college system is now so fricked and there are so many tenured lazy arse professors that can't be gotten rid of that the only real hiring going on is of adjunct faculty who get no benefits and make less than $30,000 a year for their PhD.

My point was clear. Like cops and other professions, people like to "hate on" teachers until they need them.
You saying I cant teach my frickin kid algebra are basic economics?

I was a teacher for a brief time in my life. I definitely can't complain about the pay; I was actually paid pretty well. It was draining on many levels, but I also think that has a lot to do with the school you teach at and what kind of support you receive. Fresh out of brief alt cert training, I was hired a few days before school started, handed a textbook, and was wished well. No teaming, no mentor teacher, no policies/procedures explained, no anything. Not to mention as a newbie, I was given pretty much the hardest, lowest level kids. At that point you just try to keep your head above water and take the little victories. I think if I had started at a more organized and supportive school I may still be teaching today.
For the record, I did have a student bag my alcoholic beverages one day at a local store. I didn't give two shites.

I will also add that in my major, (education) there are truly some people who make me question the credibility of the system. If you ask them what 2+2 is, they have to ask 5 questions about it. They definitely lack common sense.
I find the male teachers are usually pretty intelligent, the PE guys just want to coach, etc.
and If they fail the Praxis, then they are an idiot.

Teachers are funny. The same people that give out homework bitch and complain when they have to go home and do work themselves.
I don't feel bad for any teacher. Like others have stated... they knew what they were getting themselves into.
