I am so grateful that I'm back here. I couldn't ask for a better situation. I love being back on the 1082.

Seems like west of LR is fairly nice or at least normal but east toward Bush gets kinda klanny. That's always been my impression.
ETA: excluding military road, meaning further down LR and to the east.

Spot on. It is VERY cliquish. My SO and I went to dinner the other night and we're talking about the only thing that is missing here is friends. All of our friends live elsewhere and everyone here has been so standoffish. I don't get it. And all of the friends I have made (other transplants) say the same. One has been here 10 yrs and still hasn't met anyone from here that wasn't like that.

Metairie can fulfill every need that Covington can.
Does Metairie have areas with homes on 1-4 acres? Can I walk out my backyard and head into miles of forest?

I have a cousin by marriage that lives around your street. He has a younger brother probably around your age(IIRC, you are younger than me) that also went to SPS. They own a pretty huge chunk of property up there

I wish I lived in the country side of Covington with several acres
Slidell will have to do for now

They're not rude or ugly in any way. Just not very welcoming into the inner circles of friends.

Academically, the Southshore catholic and private schools are better than the Northshore schools.
So you really think that all of the upper middle class kids that go to the private schools on the Northshore are going to suffer some longterm impairment in career or earnings as a result of some presumed academic inferiority?
I've got news for you. Once a school has met a certain modest academic standard it is up to the student to make the most of their opportunity. I went to a NOLA Catholic high school, a local university, a local grad program and a local post-grad program and saw people from Covington High out perform people from both Newman and Jesuit. I saw Rummel grads finish at the top of the class. I saw Jesuit kids fail out of college. I finished my HS with a 2.85 gpa and now supervise people who are older than I am and have graduated from Duke, Penn, Harvard, Tulane amongst others. Again, once you've met a certain threshold your HS doesn't mean a damned thing. I haven't been asked about HS or undergrad in 20 years.

Never been there but I keep hearing it.
My main complaint about this town (aside from the cliques) is the roads all having both a name and a number. Just tell me the name. Idk where the fudge 1082 is. And there are like 3 190s. I don't get it

Checking in.
Pretty much what the other locals have said along with drunkenpunkin is right. However it is way to much like Metairie now since Katrina, at least Mandeville. Also different MHS and FHS being very true. MHS SPS and SSA are all more alike. Areas north of Covington FTW.

Been there since the 1700s. Also there are a ton of good places to eat but most are a little pricey.

Seriously though, the people who call them by the highway number have been living in the area for a while. Reason being is that their parents all called the roads by the highway number. I don't know any transplants that use the highway numbers for smaller roads. I mean, most highways are just named after their number
As far as 190 goes, I call 190 from the Causeway to into Covington and then it takes a left goint towards Hammond. I also don't call the area from 190 to 59 hwy 190. Highway 22 for me starts where 59 hits "190", and continues west until forever. There is also a business 190 that goes through downtown Covington, but everyone calls that Boston St all of the way until it meets up with the regular 190 by Covington High.
