I think downtown Covington has more to offer than the average Southern suburb.
People forget that it is just that... a suburb. How many suburbs can compete with their large counterparts in terms of culture, especially when that city is New Orleans?

By La standards, Covington is a pretty good place. Not as much trash and rednecks as compared to most of the state.
There are some good restaurants and such in the area and it is an easy drive to N.O.
The old downtown area is pretty neat.
The negative of the area is the traffic of course.

It may or may not be better than Covington, OK. Population is less than 600.
There's lots of traffic, Little Red School house on Lee Road - I know a few people that have or have had their kids go there and they seem to like it.
Mandeville or Madisonville would have been better choices, school districts are slightly better.

It's a beautiful place. Traffic's bad if you commute to NOLA for work every day, but not too terrible otherwise. The downtown area has a few decent bars and there are lots of great restaurants around for a town its size. The Tammany Trace is beautiful, there's several breweries nearby, Fountainbleu State Park is a treasure, and Mandeville has a great little old town that resembles a small beach town with little shops, bars, and restaurants near the lake.

Covington actually has a pretty nasty ghetto.

It used to be nice, quaint and lakeside. Now it's little Kenner.

Here we go with that word again...
New Orleans "Culture" has transformed from one of "Old Southern Charm" to "Murder Capital of the South".
Yeah, It's a beautiful place with a lot to offer, but as a New Orleans Suburbanite, you won't find me there but for maybe 1 Saturday a year with the wife and kids to go to the zoo, ride the street cars and get some lunch/dinner.
It's just not worth it to go there anymore. So many people say the Northshore burbs are boring. If you're the kind of person who likes the outdoors, parks, family outings to sports parks, nature walks, being on/near the water (be it the lake or the abundance of small rivers and bayous) or any of that stuff, then sign me up for the boring life.
The Mandeville, Madisonville and Covingtown "downtown" night life is awesome. Find me at the Tap Room, Old Rail Brewing Company or Barley Oak any weekend!

It's still nice, but it used to be awesome before Katrina. Alot of trash lives there now.

For you, maybe. For me, it's not. I'm not a heavy partier, nor a big drinker. Hate packed crowds. Just give me a cool place with good music/entertainment and a not so rowdy crowd and I'm good.

Just moved to downtown Cov a year ago. It's a nice little place. Quiet. A bit of a bubble with meeting friends and whatnot. But there's some nice places to eat and a lot of family friendly stuff to do. Oh, and the tap room is awesome.

It's boring, but safe. That's really all you need to know.
If it were me, I'd live on the Southshore. Metairie has everything the Northshore has to offer, except it's closer to New Orleans.

Oh for fcks sake you stupid fcking fck! Don't start with this shite.
Tell me again why 9 million people came to visit the city last year. Why can't they build enough condos and apartments to keep up with demand. Or why pretty much every neighborhood upriver from the lower 9th ward is going through gentrification? Or why the real estate market is booming in N.O.?
It's becuase people like being there. Hopefully to avoid chicken littles like you.
I agree with part of what you said. Downtown Covington has a nice little vibe to it and the breweries, restaurants, and bars on the northshore is a nice little bonus for having to live in the burbs. It's a much better burb situation that most of the boring burbs in the country.
