I spent a lot of time developing my top spin, high pace baseline shots but I strongly prefer to play net, even in singles. Rather play doubles any day so I can set up a point and get to the net to put it away. I’m not patient enough for a long baseline rally
Ha , you and i would make a good mixed doubles team- i cant stand playing at the net ! And i cant get any spin or slice on my shots to save my life, unless i do it by accident ….

I love mixed doubles!
Close your grip slightly, step into the ball and swing from 5:00-10:00. Practice on a machine doing a loop from 3:00-11:00 with your grip slightly closed from hammer grip.
You’re still doing the same swing a motion, still hitting through the ball. You’re just making initial contact slightly below center of ball moving upward as you hit through. You should end with your racquet over the opposite shoulder like you’re reaching back to put it in your backpack.
Too many people try to cut or hack at the ball to create spin. Unnecessary and counterproductive. Spin comes from your grip and down-through-upward motion of your swing. Pace comes from correct contact point and proper rotation of hips and thrust from legs.

Stfu you nerd. Sorry you didn't have friends growing up as Tennis player

Golf is a social sport for most. Drink some beers, get away for a few hours and talk shite. There’s 1000s of different courses to experience, some of the best scenery around. Cart girls as well.
What the hell does tennis offer in comparison to that?

Tennis can be very social. My club has social mixer type events weekly. They put a cooler of beer and wine out, you play a doubles set with whoever shows up, split up courts after a set, play another set, etc. It’s not as social as golf as the actual play is more active and faster moving, but it’s still social.

League tennis involves lunch/dinner and beer/cocktails. Men’s matches are usually played before women’s and they hang out to “cheer us on” while drinking. It’s a very co-ed cocktail event every weekend.

Tennis is boring compared to golf.
Tennis courts are essentially all the same with the possibility of the stands or stadium being a little different.
Golf courses are all different and the player is challenged to play the game on a different set-up every time they play (even if one plays the same course all the time, the tees and hole locations change).
At professional events, tennis fans sit and watch while golf fans can walk the course and enjoy more than just one view.
Tennis absolutely requires more physical fitness to perform at a high level at the game. Golf does not require as much fitness, as all shape and sizes of golfers can perform at a high level, but golf requires a wider skill set as the golf swing changes as one hits different shots anywhere from driver through a putter.
I can see where tennis would have some degree of mental difficulty as one is always trying to predict their opponent’s actions. In golf, the opponent is usually the course and Mother Nature (unless playing match play), but I would argue that it is more mentally challenging because it all falls on the player being able to handle what is clearly laid out in front of them and any failure is purely on the player. That is more challenging and difficult to overcome than an opponent just outsmarting you on a point in tennis.

You’re 100% right but there’s some habitual Downvoters in here

Pickleball is taking over among recreational players because it is way more social than tennis and can be played at older ages easier like golf.
I do feel like Pickleball has been the death knell for tennis. Pickleball is a lot easier to play at a decent level and their numbers is crushing tennis numbers.

I’ve played both extensively, and the sports are so different it’s hard to compare them. Tennis has just as many varied shots as golf - flat forehand, topspin forehand, slice forehand, flat backhand, topspin backhand, slice backhand, volleys, flat serve, slice serve, kick serve, etc. there are different grips for each shot, so you’re constantly having to change your grip while a pint is being played. That said, not everyone has the ability to hit all of those shots. I can’t hit a backhand topspin to save my life, but in golf I couldn’t hit a fade with my driver to save my life.
For me, tennis is much more mentally challenging. In golf, you have several minutes between most shots to analyze what you’re going to do, while tennis takes split second decisions. It is also more physically demanding. Golf is more penalizing with an errant shot, and the elements have a bigger impact.
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying both sports and respecting the challenges of each.

May have been said already but Tiger Woods killed tennis.

Good question
Same here. I was a pretty huge fan then, especially during the Agassi phase.
Maybe the present and recent players aren’t very star studded for lack of a better term?

The biggest challenge for tennis is the growing popularity of pickle ball and for golf it’s the growing popularity of TopGolf.

In my experience, watching a couple of chicks play tennis is a good way to get a boner
I vaguely recall a late 90s porn flick featuring tennis. They’d play tennis and then go in the clubhouse and bone, sometimes on the court too. The tennis seemed to add a weird good quality to it…
