Well I would disagree with that person.

Fact is though you don’t have to look far to find a truck that matches or beats every iteration of the cybertruck for a lot less.

New trucks under $20k, who beats Cybertruck?

no transmissions. No fluids to change. No drive belts or accessories.

I'm really not sure if these Teslas even have brake pads or just use the motors to stop.

There's so much being overlooked when comparing EV's to traditional vehicles.

I'd say it might make mid 40's before the EV tax credit (which is what thet are advertising now).

Likely will be right under 50 for the first few years.

A base 1500 will get you extremely comprable numbers for $25k.

Most trucks at 30k are going to have it beat where it matters.

Unless you want to agree it is a luxury truck, which is what it is.

Oh, of course.

We're all talking about price to purchase, which really shouldn't be relevant, and we should be looking at total cost of ownership which obviously is in Tesla's favor in a huge way.

Essentially a $40k Tesla Model 3, for example, will end up costing roughly the same as a $25k-30k similar car over the course of 5 years with total cost of ownership.

We're not doing that, but I imagine that would sway in Cybertruck's favor if we did.

If you think any luxury package on a truck, or any vehicle for that matter is value that might be wrong. But what is value to you and me? People have all conditions of value.

Since we got into that portion of the discussion, have you factored in total cost of ownership for this determination or just purchase price?

depends on what you're comparing that to. A diesel 2500? Those things take 3 gallons of oil each oil change, need frequent fuel filter changes, are very hard on brakes/tires etc. Also diesel is more expensive than gasoline.

I’m talking about objective stats and capabilities.

The cybertruck with the best capabilities is matched or beaten on nearly all those capabilities by trucks that can be had for 5 figures less.

frick you can probably outfit an F250 with the big diesel motor (the one that will annihilate the tesla in towing capabilities) and the crewcab with leather and upgraded interior and still have 10k+ left over.

All true.

By TSLA numbers it still takes 5 years or so.

What are maintenance numbers like on a Cybertruck?

No doubt.

It is a strange market TSLA is positioned in. This is a huge truck, huge. It isn't going to be friendly to small city centers. It isn't an ideal choice for any long range because of range limits. It doesn't have a fanboy group like Ford or Ram.

It will likely be luxury though. Which does change the conversation. Just doesn't sell volume.
