that place was a shite-hole 30 years ago when I went to my first hockey game (at any level) there. They never seemed to have the crowds/following that the other gulf coast ECHL teams had in the mid/late 90s - it's impressive seeing the hockey renaissance 45 minutes away in Pensacola, the SPHL team there is averaging over 6k this season, attendance usually doesn't pick up until after (college) football season is over.

The same thing happened to minor league baseball.

Mobile
Biloxi
Pensacola
New orleans

All had teams at the same time... there's too many teams on the gulf coast to support

Don't know what's gotten into Mobile, but they've been on a major economic development swing in recent years.

I know Pensacola wants to build a new Civic Center and are using Mobile's new one as compelling reason.

Pensacola's is pretty worn out IMO.

Fun for Ice Flyers games...

Never been there, but I’m always nostalgic over old sports venues.

Sure, the new ones are shiny, have fancy concessions, cleaner restrooms, and better pedestrian traffic flow. With that usually comes higher prices and quieter fans.

frick it…give me an old seat, crowded exit ramps, foamy beer, and a piss wall and I am good. I want the cheap seats and sold out crowds that used to literally make buildings shake. While we are at it…frick piped in music. Give me the old organ blaring in an arena or throughout a ballpark.

Mobile has never supported a sports team. They need a new one because the old one was too small for mardi gras balls.

Saw BMFS there a couple of years ago - incredible! I will be sad when all these epic old Astrodome like arenas are gone - they are so much better than the new ones we fund with our tax dollars (evidence #1 - Smoothie King Center).

I only went once, it was not a good hockey venue at all. But, like Municipal Auditorium in New Orleans, its primary use and design were to accommodate Mardi Gras.

I see the new venue has ballrooms, I know Mobile societies have smaller side rooms at their balls for smaller groups from the main group.
