Tell that to an ChemE out of LSU making 100k.
Way to gloss over the point.

but to say that on average the education and benefits are equal to a 4 year college is just not true.
No one said that.

Got me there. $6k a semester than. About double what a CC is, but still a doable number if one were so inclined.

If you had made a decision sooner not to be poor, and or have dumb kids who can't get scholarships, this wouldn't have been an issue.

Probably not, but there is no reason a kid cant live with their parents if possible, and take the first two years of a engineering curriculum at BRCC and finish on the LSU campus.

I'm not going to argue with you, but youre making it way to simple. The student is committed to school and those class times are flexible at all they can only work as their commitments dictate. They also are yet to develop a real discernable skill.
I'm not saying they can't work, buts its not as easy as your making it seem to be.

Agreed, but the number of kids who live close enough to do this is pretty small compared to overall student numbers

This is very true. I couldn’t get a good education and live at home with my parents. I wish I could but I grew up in BFE.
That being said, I took online college classes during high school, graduated college in 3 years and worked my arse off in college working 40+ hours.

Not really sure how factual this statement is. What's your cutoff for close enough? Most people live in urban areas, most of which have some form of high education in the vicinity.

As has been post already, its 2018, online education is available to anyone that has internet service. If you happen to be in LA you could take all of the freshman and sophomore core course online from LSU, McNeese, Northwestern State Etc, LSU offers 4 BA?BS degrees 100% online, the other state schools even more choices.
LSU offers a extensive amount of courses that can be taken online from wherever you live.

Its very difficult if not impossible to get a professional degree in 2 years after JUCO due to Pre-req schedules. Maybe if it works out perfectly with summer school.
For all of the ways that everyone has come up with to pay for a college education by the student, it would be pretty easy for a parent to save $40k over the course of 22 years. That's $1,820/ year or $152/ month.
My wife and I are both college educated. I don't see why its a huge deal for a parent to pay $152/ month for a college education for their kid.

Why'd you have them if you can't afford them?

Scholarship on the first round. Went back for a better degree and folks said "we'd like you to meet Mr. Stafford...."
So, no. They didn't pay for college.....

This is asinine. There's a difference between being able to provide for them and paying for a college degree. So no "poor" folks should ever have kids because they can't pay for college?
GTFO.

….also, what about kids who want to go into the military? Are they to be judged by the same metric?
I think its asinine to believe that all parents should have tucked away upwards of $250-500k PER CHILD for college. So, I am to have around $1million stashed just for their collegiate experience? (I have 3 kids - one set of twins)

You're sending your kid to school for $10k a year 18-22 years from now? Good luck.
If you want to cover half the cost of LSU's in-state tuition and room and board 18 years from now, you'd need to save about $320/mth in a 529. (5% inflation on education and ~6% net on your savings)
Have 2 or 3 kids? You're carving out $600-900/mth for half of what college will cost and you're only covering 4 years. Never mind the fact that more then 40% of freshmen won't have their degree after 6 years.

Just as people make paying your way through school sound TOO easy, you're woefully underestimating how easy it is to save for it.

Not lately in the thread, but it happens all the time nonetheless. People come on saying how they went to LSU, worked part time, and still had money to party their arse off and stuff. That's not quite as feasible today.

Seriously. WTF. Pretty sure after 18 years they are considered adults.
