Got a source on that? I thought gas furnaces were pretty common in Louisiana. My winter bills (electric + gas) are far lower than summer.

so rates have gone up ~20% over the last 4 months. The people bitching about their bill going up >50% this month are just using more
I was within 100 kWh as last June, bill was up $210 over last June. $255 fuel adjustment and $69 in storm restoration charge

not to mention the storm restoration fee went from $7.33 in dec. to over $50 in june. the municipal fee went up etc

So you're agreeing more competition would be good

Bill usual around $230. This month $380. Check the breakdown is what's infuriating. The fuel cost for making Electricity is more than my actual energy bill. Then on top of that there is a $35 charge for storm restoration

quote:Im the source. For 8 years I worked in front of a power display and for a power company that’s rates were dependent on that yearly, winter peak. It’s typically just for one cold snap. It’s a daily peak, not a monthly average which is why the cost may not show up for that whole month or for months like summer where it’s day after day of heat.

quote:Ok, that's more clear and I can see that being the case. An electric furnace probably uses something like 3-4 times as much power per degree of heating than an AC does per degree of cooling.
