Meraux here, Lexington specifically. Love it. Old Arabi is a great option too. Great police and Fire Department. Property taxes are low. Make no mistake, this is a blue collar community.
Is blue collar code for white trash like it in West Virginia. I grew up on a farm in northeast La. I have no problem with baws who work with their hands and like to drink beer, hunt, fish, and over react to LSU games. Hell most of my friends are that kind of blue collar. However I do have a problem with squated trucks, methheads, and feeling like I need to be carrying when I take my dogs for a walk.

If you have Old Metairie expectations, you’re going to be disappointed.
What expectations are those? Paying an arm and a leg for a < 1500 square foot house just to try and impress some former LSU sorority girl who has been passed around like a blunt at a music festival who is looking to settle down because men have decided that her roast beef is not worth dealing with her “standards and expectations” anymore? If that’s the OM experience that you are referring to then I will take the blue collar neighbors every day of the week.

grew up on Friscoville, parents still live there and have since 94.
I've never felt the need to carry while walking around, even at that sketchy gas-station on the corner of friscoville and st. claude that used to be the FUBU store before Katrina

You can commute from surrounding areas. A friend commuted from Covington to Ochsner St Bernard bf she got smart and found a better employer than Ochsner. No need to live there unless you want to live there.

When I lived in Llama drive me and some buddies walked to the Winn Dixie on JP at around midnight to buy TP for a night of shenanigans.
We got picked up for being out after curfew and I swear the whole department was in there fricking with us until my uncle came and got us. There never was a lot going on in that neck of the woods.

Good to know.

Are they > OT6? Do they have children?

Well shite. That is who I have the job offer from.
There are pretty much only two hospitals systems in the area. Ochsner and LCMC (which includes Children’s, Touro, UMC, West Jeff, and east jeff)

It may be fine for you. She didn’t hate her job or coworkers. The commute was tiring, of course. She just found better for her. Ochsner is a conglomerate and some don’t care for that. When she 1st started with them years ago she was trained well. They have that going for them. But not pay. Unless you are a physician or higher up.

I just laughed out loud reading this while waiting at the Ford dealership. This is the content I come to the OT for

ETA: Is old Arabi really that good? I mean it borders the lower ninth ward. Does the parish line really keep the culture that we all know I am talking about but would get banned if I actually wrote it away?
The Jackson Barracks separates the Lower 9th from Arabi and there is restricted access to the Barracks now, unlike when I was a kid and could cross through the Barracks from the 9th Ward into Arabi in several locations. I would go from the 9th Ward into Arabi via the levee behind the Barracks, through a small gate off Angela St. and via Dauphine St. Now, all those access points are shut down to vehicle and foot traffic.
Now, the easiest access is via St. Claude to get from the 9th into Old Arabi. Personally, I wouldn't be concerned with 9th Ward trouble. Plus, you'fe got that police sub-station on St. Claude right next to the Barracks.

You aren’t giving up your property are you? I hope you can find a place your dogs will be happy. Watch out for HOAs. I wonder if Peal River would have the land you need. You’ll commute, though.

Just skip all that and see if you can get a job in Covington.

Yeah the bullshite stops at Jackson Barracks, dont worry everybody knows that.
Wee Wee if you get in Old Arabi you can walk your dogs on the levee, when I lived there I ran a lot of miles on the levee.
You can get gassed up and meet all the hot, local women at the Old Arabi Bar. They pull big name entertainment there, I've seen Little Freddie King twice and Lighting Guitar Lee (RIP).
Not a smoker, no problem it was legal in ST Bernard when I left so you can go to Pirogue's and breathe in all the cigarette smoke you could ever want.

Old Arabi isn't a bad option but you're going to be right on top of your neighbors. Nice area but mostly older houses with not a ton of yard space.
Sounds to me like you want some more space so if thats the case Meraux is the best option. Jumonville North, Landry Court, Emilie Oak would all be really nice options

StB Sub-station on St. Claude.. StB Sub-station on Judge Perez.. StB Sub-station on Paris Rd... you can't get in or out of the parish without passing one of them. Try the ferry... you'll wait for 30 minutes and sit right by the jail and 100 cops.

You can do the levee, the Battle Field or the new 40 arpent path they just poured that goes from Alexander to Paris Rd.

This isn't quite my scene anymore but OAB, Pirogues and Kitchen Table are all in the Old Arabi area and offer some decent nightlife if you're into that sort of thing. Pirogues and Ktchen Table get a little hipstery at times. And you can still hit up the 24hr diners here if you're working odd hours.

Live in old Metairie and it’s great. St. Bernard kinda sucks just make the drive and live some where nice.
Posted on 7/28/25 at 5:38 pm to WeeWee
None of that where I am. Either of the Jumonville subdivisions are going to be where more of the “upper class” families will be found, especially Jumonville North. Here in Lexington we have plenty of Firemen, Cops and Refinery bros. Just my street alone, my neighbors to either side are cops and directly across is an electrician who works at the refinery. Come on down one day brotha, happy to give you the grand tour lol

Best trailer parks in the state! Go to Arabi, real talk. Even better “Old Arabi” by the river, I would not stay in Chalmette if you paid me, but Arabi I could do
