It goes completely against the theme of Southern and rebellion, especially at the time the show was in production.
What would have been interesting is if this ride was featured in an episode where the Dukes had to work with cousins from up north whom they didn't really get along with but were willing to work together to defeat a bigger, common foe.
Instead of making Boss Hogg's brother a good guy, Abraham Lincoln Hogg could have been a Yankee version of JD, complete with his version of the Dukes as his nemeses.
