Appreciate everyone's input.
Looking over the individual jobs, combat control looks awesome but I am probably more suited to do contracting.

For the people saying go enlisted, and then apply to OTS... don't listen to them unless you really want to be enlisted.
It is NOT easier to go to OTS being a prior-enlisted. The minimum requirements are exactly the same regardless if you are fresh off the street or an enlisted troop. There are more civilians at OTS than prior-enlisted. It's just the way it is, and I am speaking from experience.
Also, you can't get a yes answer from the board if you don't at least put a package in. A 3.1 in a non-technical field may not seem that competitive, but it's not all that bad either. You would have to take the AFOQT, and if you do really well on it, that will trump your GPA anyway. They really do use the whole-person concept and look at the entire package, not just one aspect. Non-rated, non-technical degree career fields would be aircraft mx, munitions mx, logistics readiness, force support, security forces, combat rescue/special tactics, and a few more I am forgetting off the bat.
If you were interested in a rated job, that 3.1 GPA would easily be acceptable and would actually look decent to the board. Rated would be pilots, navigators, air battle managers, and I think space/missile (could be wrong on that one).
Bottom line is if you are interested, do your part and put a package in. Talk to an officer recruiter only, not an enlisted recruiter (unless you are set on going in enlisted). Make the board turn you down, don't give up before you start.

Making it through flight school is not anything close to a given.
Getting in line for fighters is for the .01% of those that do - and that includes AF Academy grads and all the rest.
Just sayin'.

Obviously you need to be picked up as a pilot first, but once that happens it is possible to get fighters. Yes, the Academy grads get first dibs but they never fill all their quotas. It's one of the biggest failings of the Academy actually. They can't get enough of their cadets to want to fly, so more slots get pushed down to ROTC and OTS to fill. They don't want to incur that 10 year active duty service commitment because they are so disenchanted with the Academy and their "Air Force experience."
And the AF is always hurting for pilots, that's why the rated boards have such a higher selection rate that non-rated boards.

I am DQed from being a pilot, I had LASIK.
The more research I do, the more fulfilling it looks IF I get the right job. Step two is getting over this massive paycut I am going to take.

If I did enlisted, what would rank would I be looking at going in with?
I can't say for sure, but, you're going to speak to some recruiters anyway. You'll get better information from them.

The AF is the hardest to get prompted in the enlisted ranks of the services. But I still made E-5 in 4 years.
But the O side from 0-1 to 3 is the same as everyone else.
I am a comm troop
Same here. You in the UK? What's your AFSC?

I am retired air force 'mustang' officer. Went in out of high school at 17 and worked my way up to become and officer after finishing college at night. All I can say to you is it was easily the best times of my life and I miss it to this day after retiring 18 years ago. Whatever you decide, good luck and I wish you the best.

I've been a little research on it, I don't think I will get accepted to OCS as I had a 3.1 GPA in a non scientific field.
Enlisted pay looks like it is going to be a problem. I have 1500$ worth of bills as it is.
If you can manage money like any other person with half a brain. Living off enlisted pay isn't hard. Housing and food paid for already.

New CC has me working a weird pseudo mids/days hybrid shift right now because she thinks that'll help the supply process for the shop run more smoothly.

My uncle was a Lt. Col. In the AF and is buried in Arlington, and one if my childhood friends is in the AF and is currently stationed in Germany I think. Both of them love(d) it. What could be better than traveling the world and flying jets for a living?
