Dale basically told France how it was going to be when it came to changes or new rules. That’s why they didn’t implement those safety changes until after his death because Dale wouldn’t have it. Basically if France was ever thinking about making a change to the sport he ran it by Dale first.

also found this short on youtube about Dale Junior telling Kenny Schrader how he was glad it was him and how he's the keeper of certain knowledge and he respects him.
Isn’t it pretty much clear that there was just a shitload of blood and Dale was out? I guess we don’t need Kenny to explain it. Maybe there’s more that we don’t know, but words painted a pretty brutal picture.
I almost feel bad for Kenny, because letting it go might be therapeutic for the guy.

There is a lot of pictures of the inside of the car and analysis of what happened to his body in the study paper that found its way into the public domain. Pictures show a lot of blood on the wheel and one of the posts. He bent the steering wheel pretty good with his face. For those that want to know exactly what happened, it's available on the web.

The trauma doctor that was one of the first, if not the first, medical people to look in the car said that there was blood coming from his ears and nose. He said he knew right away what the injury was and that it was fatal.
Schrader has said Childress asked him about injuries and he told him "it's not good." Childress followed up with asking "you think he'll be out a few weeks?" to which Schrader replied "I mean not good, not good."
It's been a long time since I read his book, but I think I remember Schrader implying that Dale wasn't completely gone when he looked in, and that he said or tried to say something. But given the injury I don't see how that was possible.

His skin and muscles in his neck were the only thing keeping his head attached

Schrader doesn't really talk about it and he was barely at the car, Dale was gone and he knew it.
Tony Stewart found out Dale died when a hospital worker rolled him into Dale's room.

I was at a Birmingham Bolts XFL game that day. In the parking lot afterward, people were going up to complete strangers asking if they had heard the news. It was surreal.
