Main round of storms now starting to fire over Mississippi.
Looks like they're lining up pretty quickly on radar. That's a good sign.

Looks like that's about where the cold front associated with the low to the NW is. So that ought to stay a nice line and just get meaner looking over the afternoon.
With sun showing through in the moderate zone, it'll be the typical game of watching for discrete cells out in front as far as I can tell as the warm sector migrates north.

...Discussion... The existing outlook areas, and associated forecast reasoning, remain valid and in line with current thinking. The main adjustments to the outlook at this time will be confined to minor tweaks, mainly to remove areas near the mid-Mississippi Valley where the front has progressed eastward, and some tweaks to the tornado risk over middle Tennessee where it has been slow to destabilize. Otherwise, convection continues to increase as breaks in the clouds from Tennessee south to northeast Mississippi and northwest Alabama are allowing gradual northward destabilization to occur. With the strongest ascent now spreading into the Tennessee Valley per the latest WV imagery, and as the deep-layer wind field across the area correspondingly strengthens with time over the next few hours, expect several severe/supercell storms to evolve along with attendant severe/tornado potential.

To be expected.
Birmingham NWS planning to send up a balloon right now. That should provide some useful info going into the early evening. Also, FWIW, Birmingham office forecast discussion is pinning the greatest threat of strong tornados west of I65.

The whole area has a tornado threat, don't misunderstand. They just mentioned they're watching areas west of I65 for the greatest threat, but the whole watch area should be ready.

Yeah, I understand. Was just wondering what you heard to be west of 65. I'm about five miles west of 65.
Posted on 3/19/18 at 3:43 pm to Flanders
They typically will use interstates as boundaries when explaining where they thing the greatest threat is. It's general through past that, because they can't exactly pinpoint where.

Gothca I'm sure I've heard it defined as such just didn't pay attention to it.

Almost looks like two tornadoes in the warning box. Booneville and just south for one, and another about to slide north of Baldwyn.
Posted on 3/19/18 at 4:31 pm to Duke
What started off as a pretty distinct line in MS is becoming a bit more discrete headed to AL. That's not good news.
