re: TulaneLSU's Top 10 former Time Saver locations

Two come to mind, friend...
The location on Saints Dr. right off David (near Airline) is prominently featured in the 1977 NFL Films Saints season biopic. (The team’s old practice location was just across the street)
Also prominently featured at that location was the visually satisfying “grocery collection” inside the large vertical triangle out front, which most locations had painted solid red by the late 80’s. (Extra credit being next to Mano’s poboys.)
My favorite childhood location, however, was the Cleary Ave. location between the I-10 bridge and Vets. My father & grandfather kindly allowed the purchase of five nickel-priced Super Bubble gum pieces and a Tootsie Pop each day after returning from the day care center in the nearby octagonal building on West Esplanade. “PlayCare” was its name, and a couple years after I left devil-worshipping was its game...it subsequently shut down.
Ah, such simpler times!

The .49 cent refill of a 32 oz cup was a game changer well before its time.

Dear TulaneLSU,
While I do enjoy your well crafted top 10 threads I would be remiss if I didn't remind you that each moment you spend on them is a moment less you are able to spend facilitating the arrival of your Poorboy Tours. It is unquestionable that sustenance for the mind is important but sustenance for the body is even more important since without the latter the former can not exist.
I hope this post finds you and Mother in good health and good spirits.
Sincerely,
Obtuse1

Didn't Mitch Landrieu claim on the campaign trail that he witnessed a stickup at his neighborhood Time-Saver as a teen? People thought it was BS because there was no police report, news article or independent witness account to corroborate his claim.

Friend,
I would like to apologize as I do not agree with your cult following on this one. Me thinks the best “time saver” would have been a decision to not start this thread. Imagine the extra time you could have spent with Mother!

Questionable

I haven't had time to read this yet but does it mention the one at Transcontinental and West Esplanade?

I was always fond of the one on Pontchartrain Dr in Slidell, because I could walk to it

I have a vivid memory (not sure why) of my uncle having a couple of those LSU cups in his house when I was a youngster. He didn't go to school at LSU so I always thought it was odd he had those cups. You have finally put my mind at ease as to where those came from.
End hijack/

Friend,
Yes, it does. 4431 Transcontinental Drive, or better known as Time Saver #58, opened in 1972 at the corner of Murphy Drive. Although its entrance faces Murphy, it somehow petitioned to have its address read Transcontinental, which was supposed to communicate with the Huey P Long Bridge, but Clearview was chosen instead. In 1995, this location, like all the Time Savers, became a dreaded Houston-based E-Z Serve. Its quality soon faded. For a couple of years pre-Katrina it operated as a Discount Zone. Its gas station cover was blown away by Katrina, and when it reopened it opened as Murphy Discount. In 2017 the West Bank mini-chain of convenience stores, Birdie's, opened there. Birdie's brought some good improvements, including a Valero gas station. Finally, once again, there is cover for when you pump your gas. Valero ripped out the old single pump and installed two fresh ones that work quite well.
I am embarrassed to bring this up but Cousin actually tried to buy a Playboy at that E-Z Serve. We had just returned from a soccer tournament at Lafreniere when I went in to get a lemon-lime Gatorade. I think back then they still sold the glass bottles. I gave it to Cousin to pay, as I did not yet carry money, and when he went up to the cashier, he asked for that disgusting magazine. Thankfully, the virtuous cashier requested ID. Cousin was just 17, so he said, "Nevermind." I told Mother about it and she told Uncle. Cousin was grounded for a week and wouldn't talk to me until I promised to write an essay he had for his English class at Jesuit.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

The TS #2 was on the corner of Metairie Road and Rosa, my grandparents lived down the block on Orchid and Rosa. We use to catch all the Metry Mardi Gras parades and the OM St Paddy's parade right in front that Time Saver...

Well, today is your lucky day. You now have a choice. You can read the Time Saver thread on the OT, or the same Time Saver thread on the F/D board. Freedom of choice is what you've got.

TL, Do you know which Time Saver locations employed a young Tom Fitzmorris?
