I thought someone always had to be in the drivers seat of those things?
You do. You also have to touch the steering wheel every few minutes I believe. Car wouldn't have been in auto pilot.

This is like saying take all airplanes out of the air because of a crash. They are still safer than human drivers

I would bet on them finding some accelerant.
A lithium/cobalt battery pack, and probably a healthy dose of magnesium in the frame

On a positive note looks like they saved on Cremation arrangements. Joking of course . You just hope they died on impact.

Yeah, called lithium in the form of large battery packs. Retards like you don't understand how dangerous such things are and why a tank of diesel or gasoline is still safer overall.

You walk around with a lithium ion battery in your pocket all day long and are worried about safety?

Yawn the DOT EPA US Government allows autonomous cars but I can’t import a diesel Range Rover because it’s not safe???

Somebody, anybody PLEASE take these driverless cars off the road. I am for advancements in technology but this is ridiculous. What if instead of plowing into a tree the thing had hit some family in another car.
Autopilot malfunctions at a rate 8 times lower than humans. Sooo, there would be less deaths

Well if they woulda sprayed more than just that one tire they mighta got it out sooner.

Anyone who rides in a vehicle with nobody driving probably isn’t gonna live long.

Yeah you damn sure aren't putting out a Lithium Ion/Polymer battery fire with fricking water.
It's a chemical fire. Pretty much require a lot of sand or a Class D Fire Extinguisher

Do you sell Teslas'? So maybe you should tell that to the families of those two killed in this accident. I wonder if nanoseconds before that 'driverless car' hit that tree the guy in the front passenger seat said, "Oh sh** I'm about to be a statistic!"
Like I said, someone needs to make a law to keep these things off the road. They're unsafe. There I said it.

So do these Teslas have a habit of becoming a Roman Candle when they crash? Is it the 21st century version of the Ford Pinto?

The report is the car was going excessively over the speed limit. Autopilot won't go 5 mph over the speed limit. If I had to guess these darwin award winners floored it and lost control and hit a tree. With no seat belt on they bounced all around the inside of the car.
Probably so.
