UPDATE: All UL events scheduled for today are canceled. All roads leading into campus are closed.
So I assume this means that classes are considered an event?
Before you jump my case I have a Midterm at 430 and if classes are cancelled then im hitting the golf course ASAP.

why wasn't I notified of this?!!!! my son is sitting at Cajunfield, with MANY other students, who don't have a clue what is going on!! They are waiting for buses. Why weren't parents notified??? He's a first-time freshman!!! I thought UL had an emergency call out system
Let him go, mom. He'll figure out what to do on his own !

State Police have told us they are investigating a possible second device in the area of Taft and St. Mary. Investigators ARE planning to render the first suspicious device in Girard Park safe in the next hour or so. You may hear an explosion if you are in the Girard Park area. State Police have also just evacuated the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.

I was told to not worry about going into work for the rest of the day.
I get off at 5, so it's pointless to go in past 2 really. Your class could still happen, but I wouldn't count on it.

The problem with situations like these is the amount of misinformation and rumors that are spread.
Hope they're just random boxes full of textbooks and not actual bombs.

Is it possible to move the device to Upper Lafayette and then detonate it?

Advertiser: 10:20 a.m.: The entire UL campus is undergoing a sweep using bomb-detecting dogs, Registrar Chip Jackson said.
The university's bomb-sniffing dog, Pepper, and those from other local law enforcement are being used to sweep all buildings on campus including the south campus that includes the Cajundome and LITE Center, he said.
UL students residing on campus this summer were relocated to River Oaks catering and event center on Kaliste Saloom Road, Jackson said. Fortunately, the residence halls were not as full as they would be in the fall or spring, he said.
The university's emergency alert system and plan seems to be working well, Jackson said.
10:11 a.m.: The second suspicious device located on UL's campus has expanded the evacuation perimeter to Harding Street near campus, according to State Police. The first suspicious device was found in a garbage can in Girard Park and is close to being rendered safe.
Lafayette Police are asking motorists to avoid the area around UL campus. This area includes major roadways such as Johnston Street, St. Mary Boulevard, South College Road, W. Pinhook Road, University Avenue, as well as roadways associated with the Oil Center.
