First bit of advice, OP. Ignore this bit here entirely and don't think twice:quote:
Men work. Nobody, least of all your wife, will be attracted to you when you are down.
This is unfortunately an attitude that is pervasive in this region and it's completely untrue if you have a family who loves you. I feel bad for this person.
Second, understand that it will be okay. Not that things will work out how you want them, but that whatever direction it goes, everything is going to be alright.
Enjoy some time off if you can afford it, be thankful you have a loving family. Apply to jobs. Put your best foot forward, that's all you can do. Most of all try not let the stress bleed into other areas. There's reason to be a little more forward thinking, but at the end of the day a job is a job. It is not your life.
I appreciate the advice especially the last part. I am very fortunate in that my wife works and we have a reasonable rainy day fund to make things manageable into the new year if push comes to shove. Her income can't sustain the family long-term though and with her being pregnant, staying full-time employed is not a given for her either.
She had a miscarriage the previous go around and at her first doctor's visit this time, they found minor hemorrhaging. We have no idea if that means she's going to have some more complications or not, but needless to say it adds a level of stress that wouldn't be there otherwise.
I think this is a big factor in my anxiety of not being employed more so than being out of a job for the first time in a long time.

Up before sunrise is great advice.
Go get that job that will make getting laid off seem like the best thing that ever happened in your working life.
You are going back to work somewhere. Use this as an opportunity to get the job you want.

As a person with 21 days off every 42 days, I think you’re definitely doing that right thing to find something to do.
Also go fishing at least once.
