Man...those were some well spent years there

We should have been out of there once we tossed Bin Laden overboard. We got our revenge so why would we play the worlds police force when all the other countries sit back and do nothing?

We should destroy it before we leave.

We left them a bunch of weapons at the bases. That was a very nice homecoming gift, I believe.

I spent time there and lost multiple friends. It sucks to see this happen, but I know what I fought for, don’t act like we were just pawns.

So we did all of that for absolutely nothing in the end, just like every other country who thought going into Afghanistan was a good idea
There are certain rules in the universe that cannot be changed and will stand until the end of time; the rules of physics and supply and demand are two prime examples. Another such rule is the rule of warfare, namely that the only path to victory in war is one side must break the will or ability to continue waging war upon the other. When this happens, a war is brought to its conclusion. This rule has been true since the dawn of human civilization. And just as this rule was true in every previous war, it likewise was true in our war in Afghanistan.
So this leads to the question of what would be necessary for the US to win a war in Afghanistan. The answer to this question is simple, but horrific. Simply put, to win a war in Afghanistan would require a war of absolute annihilation and even genocide. We would have to lay waste to everything, even to the point of salting the earth as legend contends Scpio did at Carthage. Anything short of this would not lead to victory in Afghanistan. All the previous invading armies through history failed in Afghanistan because they lacked the ability to wage the type of war that would lead to the conditions where victory could be realized.
Our leaders should have answered the question of conditions for victory before launching the war. And then asked the natural follow up question, does the US possess (1) the military ability and (2) national will to achieve the required conditions for victory? The answer is yes to the latter but no to the former. While our military has the ability to lay waste to anything in its path, our modern western sensibilities would preclude any such war of complete annihilation from ever being waged again in the manner we, as part of the Allies, waged against Japan and Germany in World War II.
Thus, the American war in Afghanistan was doomed from the start due to a lack of will to prosecute the war in a manner that could lead to victory.
It’s as simple as that.

If those shitheads couldn’t develop a stable country after 20 years of us being there trying to jump start it….they don’t want it and it will never happen.

frick em. The Taliban doesn't seem to have ambitions beyond Afghanistan as far I've read.
Let them have that shithole. As long as they're only terrorizing their own country, whatever.
I think they've learned their lesson and won't be inviting Al Qaeda, ISIS, etc. or anyone who pokes the bear back.

What they're doing in Africa is evil. They'll own many of the ports on that continent soon

I pray to God that maybe this time we've learned our lesson. There are some places in this world that are only fit to receive justice in small increments... out of the belly of a B-52.
These people were given 20 years worth of our best and brightest, their blood, sweat, tears, and their lives. Not to mention the billions of taxpayer dollars spent to prop up their shithole country.
If we had any balls as a country and a government, we would just let them know that if we get any problem out of them, the bombing will start at the government buildings and places they gather, including their mosques, and radiate out from the capital until there is nothing in the country but houses. If they don't handle their problem at that point, the houses go too.

The Chinese are to smart to waste money and resources invading Afghanistan. They will wait for the Taliban to win and bribe the leadership for access to mineral rights. They don’t give a single shite about human rights and only care about their bottom line which is why they will be more effective at controlling that shithole through diplomacy then we were through military force for 20 years.

Ultimately all of your sacrifices basically made a few big wig contractors and politicians very rich…..so I’m not sure what that makes the army overall in this situation but it doesn’t look great.
