Would not get one that comes from northern states.

Ordinarily I would think that, but I still have a 2007 Saab I got from CarMax that was a Michigan car- no rust or undercarriage issues. In fact, I bought 3-4 cars thru CarMax over the years, all great buys, no issues...

Be sure to get awd I’d you plan to go into the mountains in the winter. I would recommend an awd regardless though.

I got 15k off MSRP. Might be because I am in California, but couldn't find any used ones with <30k miles any cheaper.

I quickly learned that AWDs are not created equally. AWD in a vehicle that the base model is FWD is not worth a shite.

You're going to over pay at carmax. Carvana seems to have better deals.

Good point. don’t just choose any awd vehicle, do some research first. I’ve had no issues with my gx460 so I can definitely recommend that.

Great car. OP, if you are looking in the low $40k range, a CPO GX is tough to beat.

Try Echopark...nothing over 4 years old, good prices. All have Carfax and there's no haggling.

You’ll probably end up with a Subaru Outback with a Save the National Forest and a Bernie sticker already on the back.

Scrape off the stickers. Those are great cars if you're going to drive anywhere near the Rocky Mountains in the Winter.

Shop online. Find the one you like from the comfort of your couch. Got to whatever dealer that its located with your max amount you're willing to pay already decided.

They give you any bullshite tell them to piss off. NEVER tell them where you'd like your note to be.

That will be my next vehicle purchase. You can find 16-17 w/ 50k miles for $35k easily. 4wd and can easily pull when necessary. I already have a trailer if I need to haul anything.
