Weird to see this thread today because I was stung by a Yellowjacket about 2 hours ago. That bitch hurt way more than a bee or wasp sting. Felt like someone put a needle over a fire and then stabbed me in the hand with it.

I got stung on the lips by a yellow jacket a few years ago…. Hurt like hell. And swole up like I was getting lip injections.

I was bending down over a creek looking for crawfish when I was about 12 or 13. I happened to kneel on a yellow jacket hole and they started swarming. I got stung over 20 times on my face, neck and scalp.

My cousin and I rode our bikes but we were 3-4 miles from home and we were a half mile from our bikes in the woods. By the time I got home my tongue and throat were thick and my eyes were starting to swell shut. Breathing was difficult. I guess it was anaphylaxis. Scared me and my mom shitless.

This was 1977-78 and I don’t think we knew about epi pens then. Anyway had to go to the ER and get treated. I’ve been stung by wasps a few times since but no serious allergic reaction.

They are a bitch though.

I have a 1 gallon garden sprayer I keep on the back patio. When it’s not being used to spray RoundUp, it’s filled with Dawn dishwashing liquid and water. In the mornings when I sit outside and drink coffee, I’ll pick off the wasps that land in the grass doing whatever the frick they do. Occasional hornet but mostly wasps. Give them about a 5 second soap bath and kill em.

nothing more terrifying than discovering a nest by accident when you are cutting grass near a fence
was stung yesterday in my love handle, of all places, while weeeating along my fence. Never saw the nest or the perpetrator. All I felt was the scalding hot pitch dagger plunged into my skin and the burning after

I never understand why people freak and want to kill honey bees

Many confuse wasp, honey bees, yellow jackets, hornets etc.

Yellow jackets, wasps, hornets, and honey bees are all stinging insects, but they have distinct differences in appearance, behavior, and diet. Yellow jackets and hornets are types of wasps, with yellow jackets being smaller and more aggressive, while hornets are larger and can have a more painful sting. Bees, particularly honey bees, are known for their fuzzy bodies and role as pollinators, while wasps and hornets are more likely to be scavengers and predators.

Bastards build an escape tunnel underground so you have to be careful to cover both entrances/exits.

Take a small piece of screen and cover both holes. Either gasoline the shite out of them and set it on fire or you can take some Dawn detergent and pour down each hole. Once that Dawn gets on them they are toast.

I usually hit one while on my riding mower and those bastards have all the advantage by the time they attack.

Did you know that Yellowjackets can recognize faces?

They also make pretty good engineers.
