Upload all the songs to digital files in an external hard drive and toss em

Ripped over 300 CDs to FLAC last year. Had 4 drives running rips at once and worked through a small box full of CDs per night until it was done. the software I used really made short order of the parallel ripping and tagging.
Rips sound great blasting through my Sonos system. But, I finally jumped on the streaming bandwagon not long after, and I don’t listen to the rips as much.

Some in my garage some in my car , but the number of cds my wife had when we were teenagers was in the thousand$. She would double check her car to be sure they were there every time we’d go anywhere.

I had mine in a giant sleeve case in the attic and the plastic sleeves melted to the discs.
Had to chunk all of them.

Mine are all uploaded to my computer. Have them in giant books in my closet.

I spent years trading on etree for live bootlegs to all the shows I've ever been to. I had a couple hundred studio store bought CDs, well day a flood took care of all that.

No way they come back in vogue like vinyl, right?
They absolutely will. 100% guaranteed.

You should put one in the microwave and watch it. Neat.

My wife had her collection from the late 90s through early 2000s. Someone broke into her car and stole them last year.
How much would 50 or so CDs be worth?

I keep them and listen to them. Like insurance. Because free streaming services are a dying breed and the for pay ones get pricier over time. I want to be able to listen to my music how and when I want in original or remastered form. Prime is offering fewer and fewer quality recordings, trying to force us into their paid Unlimited subscription service. Pandora is starting to slip in re recordings of big hits on several of their stations.
Oh, I ripped a bunch of them (hundreds) and stored on external hard drive. Fine, until ext hard drive crashed. Another reason to keep the originals.
I do the same with my DVDs.

I took mine to the camp 10 years ago. I finally threw them away about 6 months ago.

My favorite 12 are in my trucks visor, like the cds of all red-blooded Americans should be.

How do you play this in a car? FLAC takes up too much memory to be worthwhile for loading on your phone or mp3 player.
My car (Subaru Outback) has a USB port - it reads MP3s off a thumb drive.
