think Hawthorne was making ~ 85k when he retired but Jim used to drive vehicles from Audubon Ford back in the early 1980’s (extra perks).

Damn. He could have probably made more selling insurance

I watch Moscona and Culotta on their Whiskey and Wine and often wonder how they afford what appears to be nice houses in Baton Rouge by talking on the radio for 2-3 hours a day.

Yet I have a somewhat important job, and feel like I’m struggling at times

If you think talking on the radio is an easy gig consider this.

Chris Blair spends hours each week prepping for a specific game in all three major sports. You have to research the rosters for the Tigers opponents; you have to generate talking points and statistics. You have to conduct interviews and hosts coaches shows.

You must facilitate sponsorships for the radio broadcasts as well as travel with the team. There are late night flights and you must be a professional and represent LSU in the best light possible. You should be an upstanding citizen. You have family obligations to consider.

It’s a lot of work to be a “ regular” play-by-play Guy. Also the pregame shows are formatted in a similar style each time. This takes work.

Should be a 100k a year salary.

Culotta's uncle Mark? What's he up to these days?

Remember when he and Rooster Barbrie had that live TV call in show?

Have a friend that did 3 hours a day on the radio in Los Angeles, he said with prep time, office time, meetings, a 3 hour radio show is a 12 hour a day job.

exactly. Id like to see the losers on this site who are always shitting on the crew at 98.1 and 104.5 just because they don't agree with their takes. They couldn't come up with stuff to talk about for 3hrs a day, take care of sponsors, do remote broadcasts and take care of their families. All while making radio money. I would concede however that they probably do well enough for themselves with the cost of things in this state.

Someone earlier mentioned the whiskey and whine show. I would imagine these guys have decent homes. Let's use Mascona for example. I doubt the dude is living large considering he has a special needs child that requires a lot of time, and money to keep him alive at birth, and all the therapy he requires now that he's ok and healthy.

Moscona probably makes the most including benefits. His show is in a couple markets and he does some other stuff for the station.

Ott and Hanny are their own business, so they have to pay self employment taxes and all benefits.

I would think Moscona probably makes around 70-80 and the Hanny/ Ott are around 50 just from their show. The other personalities/producers make about 20. Ott probably did better when he had a show by himself.

They also get deals on stuff and free stuff from sponsors.

They also get extra money from MCing corporate events.

Ott used to make some money from picking games.

Moscona gets paid to fill in on some regional shows.

The perks and extra income are probably worth another 20 per year for the top talent in BR.

Got a buddy who does radio in a top 100 market...DJs and is program director. He doesn't make much, at all. He's pretty open about how poor he is but he absolutely loves what he does.

I would love their job. Looks easy and they just talk sports for a living

Making people want to listen to you and filling up air time with enough conversation to hold people's interests seems challenging to me.

Most have free car deals through ad deals. Pay is based on market size and number of listeners.

I bet moscona makes 75k a year plus benefits and in his contract probably has 2 spots personally they he can sell for money/perks. I know advertising on the radio is decently priced so he isn’t making Buku money but I also know that when they changed to the non selling airtime model with designated salesmen they started making good money. I bet tbob makes 45k a year and an extra 10-15 on outside work.

Man some of y’all calling Matt a prick is terrible. He can’t be a homer like y’all think. He has to stay middle ground for obvious reasons.

He has the best show out of the three. Love the combo with him and theriot on Tuesday with the podcast and on Friday.

He is a great father on top of that. He definitely has some adversity he is dealing with his son. Team drew

Morning scones are great to watch.

I bet he pulls in 100k after the advertising he does for his private shows like morning scones and his podcasts

Yeah, I think they have to hustle pretty hard for ad time and sponsorship deals to get out of the mid 40s to 50s. They can also get outside income from voiceovers, endorsements, or being Scooby Doo in a direct to video dvd.
