Carolina people at work call it a Tobaggan. Yankees at work wonder why they are calling their hats a sled. I usually call it a stocking hat or a beanie. I honestly never wore one enough growing up to have an official name for it.

Skull cap/skully,
Stocking cap
Toque (since I started watching hockey, and I've seen players wear them when they play the outdoor games.
Use them all interchangeably.


My grandpa used to wear one to bed every night. he called it his "cupaluna" pronounce the first "u" like book. I don't know if this is right, he didn't speak much Italian/Sicilian.

Depends. Some are beanies. Some are toboggans. Beanies are tight fit and do not have a fold. Toboggans have a fold and a ball up top on a lot
