IMO, it should mean having the freedom to be an individual and pursue whatever happiness means to you, with the caveat of not injuring others to do so.
We are only ok at that as a society.

It means that I was born on a piece of dirt that is located in North, South or Central America. Those Canadians sure are some friendly Americans and Mexico has the best taco's in America. Costa Rica also has some of the finest beaches in America. Arguably, the best Mardi Gras in America is in Brazil. I do also hear things are pretty nice in the south, I should visit Buenos Aires when I get a chance.
