Minneapolis and St. Paul are effectively the same city.

Then why is the MSM descending on Minneapolis, but not 15 miles east? Are the people in St. Paul more civilized? Or just smart enough to not die while protesting?

Downtown Minny is pretty dead too these days. North Loop kinda has stuff going on but everything downtown now feels dead
in 2026, it would be easier to list cities that have lively downtowns (and I mean the true downtown area) than not

While I can’t say I’ve been all over the area, I fly in and out of MSP frequently and the parts of MSP I’ve seen haven’t been overly appealing.

Are there a lot of Somalis? Yes. As a southern person it’s hardly noticeable. Minneapolis is 55% white. That’s unheard of for a major city in the south You drop a southern man here randomly they would feel like it’s the whitest big city in the country
also Midwestern cities are a lot more segregated so it would probably feel even more white

I mean it’s remarkable how white Minneapolis feels completed to
Atlanta, New Orleans, etc

Yes, I notice Somalians because they feel like the only minority I see, but it feels far less diverse. Now the suburbs? Even moreso. Go out to Edina and compare that to Metairie?
Edina makes Metairie look like Mogadishu

I’ve noticed that when I’ve been in Great Lakes region. As an outsider, it seems harmonious to me. You’re Italian and wanna live near other Italians? Great. Here’s a neighborhood where that can happen. You want some great Polish food? Go to the Polish area and find a mom and pop. Seems like that would allow you to retain traditional values. The whole idea that we force people together that inherently don’t want to be together is tiresome.

St Paul is pretty cool. My mom lived there for a year and I went and visited. We could watch the St Paul Saints outfield from her apartment. They had a lot of good pubs and restaurants. I was there for a week and never really went to Minneapolis.
St Paul has some cool spots. My favorite was this huge vintage arcade. You pay for entry and every game is free play after entry. They had pinball machines from the 30s to now and tons of vintage video game arcades plus a really cool putt putt golf. I wish I had more time to go there. Also if you like Vietnamese food try the similar Hmong food all over the city. But my favorite meal was the Walleye sandwiches.

For like the past 50 years at least. I grew up in the suburbs, went to the city a lot, and go back regularly. Minneapolis is a pretty great city. Great economy, breweries, food is pretty good. If you live in Minnesota the public schools are incredible.

The big downside to Minnesota is the weather.

It’s really funny watching people on this Louisiana site bitching about Minnesota. It’s very clear none of you have been there

Crazy…but if you look at the demographics of St. Paul, it was 80% white in 1990. It’s now below 50%, with a rise in Asians and AA. The change hasn’t been nearly as drastic in Minneapolis.

Chris Rock in the 90s - “There ain’t no black people in Minnesota! The only black people in Minnesota is Prince and Kirby Puckett!”

That one didn’t age well.

Been there… in the summer. It was nice then albeit very bright at night.

No fricking way would I want to be there in the dead of winter.

I know

I said a southern man would “feel like” it’s the whitest

Our big cities :

Atlanta 40% white
New Orleans 30% white
Birmingham 24% white

Minneapolis is 58% white. That’s Mayberry compared to the above . Which is why it’s kinda funny to see a majority Louisiana based baked talk about it

Actually shocking when you think about it. Because you only have to go back to 1990 or so and it was almost all white. Not a good trajectory.

Sure you can compare it to Birmingham. But that number you gave is for only the city limits. Metro area as a whole is a lot different.

yeah…
Chattanooga is 54% about like Minny
Asheville is 75% white

The bigger difference a southern man would notice racially is the rural areas. Rural towns of less than 10,000 in the middle of nowhere Alabama could be anywhere from 10%-90% black. That’s normal for the deep south and basically doesn’t exist in the north. The small towns are all lily white
