no its just people keep coming on here claiming an emp blast does this or a carrington event does that when its complete bullshite.

only way the OPs scenerio works is something like the plot of the last ship. where some crazy deadly flu is spread with 90%+ death rate

but even then, most things like that or a aresol version of ebola kill within 8-10 days. most people can stay locked away for a couple weeks and if it was something like a covid that was greater than say 25% deadly....people would not leave home. places like plants would go to immediate lockdown etc and within 3 weeks the virus would have burned itself out.

thing is deadly diseases like that cant survive in every environment so plenty of places would be free from that too.

Oh, that's a definite yes.

OP asked what would you do if the grid went down. We have probably dozens of posters having interesting debates on what they'd do or what would happen.

You're the only one caught up on multiple pages/posts trying to tell everyone the OP's scenario is "Hollywood bullshite" when how we arrive at the OP's scenario is entirely irrelevant, only what we'd do given that scenario.

fine grid does down, im grabbing 2-3 55 gallon drums, loading an ice chest down with food and ice from freezer and water and going to the gas station, popping the top on the storage tank and using my small dc power pump to fill my vehicles and the drums immediately that i find out about an emp or solar flare

then driving to mexico or some place not effected and vacationing

or

i sit it out with the food i have and food i can scourage up using same method for gas and running generators. i practice basebal in the yard with the kids, play basketball and enjoy our pool for a while as i should have enough chemicals on hand to keep it clean for a while.

or i drive to our camp in toledo with the family with all the food and gas i can and we ride it out if its gonna be longer than 6 weeks.

or are yall still pretending vehicles and motors and electric devices wouldnt work?

Nope, they don’t work.

Pick a reason.

No gas, EMP (poopy head), whatever.

Ive thought about this and sadly I might take myself and family out if the situation deteriorated enough. A peaceful death is way better than a violent one.

Does your family know about this? They might not think it sounds so peaceful.

I love my family immensely. I live in a heavily populated area. We lack the land to grow food, the space to guarantee safety or hunting, and have no meaningful weapons. Even living in possibly one of the most affluent areas in the country, the behavior of humans will deteriorate quickly. The meanest and most horrible people will be the strongest because they lack empathy. It is foolish to believe that most of us would survive. I would do anything necessary to protect my daughters from the horrors that COULD happen. I would give the best effort at our survival but I would not let them suffer.

do some fricking research my guy. less than 20% of vehicles wouldnt work. essentially if its mainly metal body it works.

stop pretended hollywood is correct and do some research. i linked the wiki that has the oakridge studies linked in the article.

He legit said it doesn't matter what the reason, pick one, but ultimate they don't work.

I'm going with Klaatu deciding to turn off electricity in order to teach humanity a lesson...

Anyways, the main thing in any survival situation is not to panic.
With the grid off, there is an entire generation (or more) that is going to freak out without their cellphones. People will go nuts.

This is a bit extreme. I have lived over a week without power after hurricanes. It's rough but people tend to reach out and help, not turn into murderous mobs.

Studies show people are more cooperative and generous when under extreme stress events. See Cajun Navy and how people talk to their neighbors way more after storms.

Seriously? You think most people are like the ones in the Cajun Navy? What about the the ones who were shooting at them and the helicopters. For the guy arguing that only 15% of the cars would be affected. How many of those are going to be on interstates and bridges and roads.

People who think that hungry people will behave, haven't been paying attention. Cities would burn. Again, without communication and means of transportation and for many lack of drinking water, things would escalate much quicker than most think.

again so what if 15% are on the roads? go around them if you have too. if is on bridges, put it in neutral and pull them out the way, or push them to the side of the interstate

are we under some impression that because 15% of cars stop working we suddenly are not going to have first reponder vehicles and wreckers to clear the roads?

and if 15% of the ICE cars are effected that means prolly even less generators are effects considering the way they are designed. so we would have water and stores would have back up power in most places.

and the oak ridge studies show small electronics are not really effected by emp or solar flairs, even carrington event

and if generators work or can be repaired really easily than why would we lose cell phone signal? the generators at the towers would come right back online. and the tower being metal means more than likely the electronics on those towers would be fine too.

so why would the cities burn?

OP said grid goes down, not that the whole world is in absolute chaos. quit making shite up.

Mostly same for me.

And while I truly do think banding together with the neighborhood and getting the group bigger and bigger as time goes is the best way for survival, it's also a bit self fulfilling for me in that I'd definitely need the help to have any chance to survive. I think most of us would, I think a lot of folks think they'd make due...but very few of the ones who think that could actually pull it off.
