OR ... showing a picture of your card (that is supposed to be safely stored at home, according to Destroya) is satisfactory, which is also on your phone
That said, I can believe that simply flashing the phone serves as optics for the establishment to say they looked.

According to the city, it went into effect yesterday but won't be enforced until the 23rd. However the frick that works.

The implication is that patrons are asked to show their phone to give the appearance that the establishment is checking, when in reality they aren't, it is all theatrics ... which is appropriate.
