I had mine out as an adult. Tonsils removed and UP3 (reconstructive surgery on back of throat and uvula).
It hurt like hell but the liquid codeine was good.
Just don't expect to be fully active again for longer than the 2 weeks you are hearing as it takes a while for everything to heal and the scabs to fall off.

Had my Tonsils, Adenoids and reconstructive surgery on back of throat and uvula at 39. Expect the full 2 weeks of recovery and I would get them to prescribe some pill form pain meds. They gave me liquid Lortab and that shite burned like fire going down and coming back up if you get my drift. Which then caused me to start bleeding like a stuck hog.

Wife's family has a history of throat cancer that originates in the tonsils. Had hers removed at 35. Was in bed for 4 weeks, and not fully pain free until the sixth week. YMMV
I remember the ENT pulled me into the conference room after the surgery. She said if the stitches come out and she starts bleeding, she is dying. Do not call me or 911. Start driving to an emergency room.
My kids both had theirs removed at about age 4. 3 day recovery at the most.

I have an appointment with the ENT April 7th to have mine checked out. I've had tonsillitis and/or strep 8 times in 12 months so mine are likely gone.
I'm not looking forward to it. I'm 30 btw.

Why are you going to do this? Only consider if it's necessary.
It can cause serious health problems if you need to take them out and you don't. I had mine taken out when I was 16 or 17. It wasn't by choice.

Ride the liquid Lortab train for a couple weeks and don't try to rush it. Days 6 and 7 are the worst.

I was 18. First couple days miserable. Then for next 10 days not great but not terrible. Pain's edge eased up gradually at first, then by the day. But jello gets old. Even ice cream. Wanted poboys and fried chicken and steak. Worth it - the every other week sore throat infections were gone after the surgery.

Wife had a lingual tonsillectomy last year. She was in pain for a week, couldn't hardly drink water or sleep. It was brutal

Had mine done at 37. Worst pain I have ever experienced. It's just a lingering pain over weeks. IF you do it here is what you need. Oh I needed a full 2 weeks. I laughed and said whatever but yeah 2 weeks.
Humidifier or dehumidifier can't remember
Ice pack for your throat. I used this non stop. Get 2 so you can swap them out.
Sonic slushes
Chick Fil a or sonic ice
Gatorade to cut the liquid pain killer. Helps but torture getting it down.
I sipped potato soup from la Madeline and chicken noodle soup from chick fil a.
Out of all the things the ice packs helped the most besides the pain meds.
Sorry for the grammar. Post work beers.

Think of nausea also. I didn't get nasueas but if you start throwing up it can pop a stitch and you can bleed out.

I had mine removed in my mid thirties. Had a deviated septum fixed and my sinuses roto-routed out as well. The tonsils were by far the worst part. I got liquid hydrocodone for pain. It came in big quart jugs. Every time I coughed or had to clear my throat I just took a little pull off the bottle. Only time in my life I've had to take pain mess for more than 3 days. It was awful.

I had mine out at 32 or 33. I took none of the prescribed pain medicine after the surgery. Granted I had emergency surgery a week later for something completely unrelated to the tonsillectomy that included a 3 day hospital stay. The recovery from the emergency surgery was much, much worse than the tonsillectomy recovery.
The first few days post tonsillectomy were nothing compared to the pain of a kidney stone.

Had mine taken out when I was 21. They did it around 7 am. I took something for the pain the first time I woke up. Never took anything more pain meds.
Ate a bunch of Popsicles, Push Ups and Jello for two days. Was back at school the next week. Went back to the surgeon two weeks later and never saw him again.

I was 35, when I had tonsil removed along with uvula, adenoids and deviated septum repaired. I was back at work two days later but that is just me. Just kidding that shite hurt especially the tonsil and uvula.
ETA: this is the procedure were it took me a year to feel right from the anesthesia. I was fine froze the surgery but was just kind of off physically and mentally from the anesthesia.

7-14 days of "swallowing razor blades" . Pain meds help, but usually don't completely take away the pain.
If you have OSA are having the UPPP done with it, it can sometimes help as the tonsillar pillars are sewn together cover the raw spots. But usually a lot of the suture pop anyway, so doesn't always help.

I had my tonsils out at Age 33.
The pain wasn't so bad for me, I stopped taking my prescription pain med by Day 7.
Ate the frick out of ice cream (couldn't really taste it) and drank gallons of Gatorade.
The taste that emanated from the incisions/lesions in the back of my throat afterwards was like a smell & taste from the deepest bowels of hell. It was sickly sour with a twinge of burnt and that taste lasted about a month.
I never get upper respiratory, ear, or throat issues since the surgery.

Debating whether I should put it off or go ahead and have them removed.
