A friend of mine rom LSU. Guy never studied, and made straight A's. He was well liked by everyone, and always knew the line between college hijinks, and shite that will ruin your life. He went to Vanderbilt for medical school, and know works at the Mayo clinic.
He was also really good at trivia, and we won a shite ton of trivia contests in our day.

My ex brother-in-law. First internist in BR to treat aids patients in the early 80’s when that disease was a essentially a death sentence. He ended up getting early onset of Alzheimer’s in his late 50’s and passed in his early 60’s.

My uncle went to Wharton and MIT then was Pres/CEO of a Fortune 500 in the 90s. I also have a friend who works at a plant who might be a genius....multiple degrees from all over, but he just likes to chill.

Makes you wonder if there is a connection between dealing with a potent virus and having early onset Alzheimer's.

Family friend who did his PhD in computer science at MIT and used to win national math contests. He’s my age too.

In reality, the smartest guy I met/know, is a guy I went to HS with. He was two grades behind me. I will spare the board the details, but here is summary of this guy.
- Got caught up in drugs.
- Quit school as soon as he was old enough.
- Was going down a very dangerous road.
- After a few experiences he decided to get clean. Went to rehab and did so.
- Got his GED.
- Went to community college (he got a job as a tutor. He never took a calculus class. When he went to get a job as an interview they asked if he could tutor calculus, because thats what they needed. He told them yes. Borrowed someone's book and taught it to himself in less than an hour).
- transfers to LSU with a 4.0.
- Maintains his 4.0 at LSU.
- He was in pre-law. Without him knowing, had a professor contact someone at LSU law school. Before he even applies, gets offered a scholarship to LSU law school (I don't know if he was offered a scholarship before applying, I just know he was contacted by LSU law school before he even applied and his law school ws paid for)
- Becomes a lawyer.
- In his office, the only degree he has up on his wall is his GED.

My Dad. Grew up with a dirt floor in central Texas, went to college one day and hated it. Joined the Navy the next day. He can engineer and problem solve like no one I have ever seen. Ended up consulting for his former company when it was purchased by a German manufacturer. When things went to shite their German Engineers had to call my dad to come problem solve and when he diagnosed and corrected issues they offered him trips, etc, and he would simply say "Its nice to be needed" and not take a thing. I wish I had listened to him more.

I’ve met three winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics.
Eugene Fama
Bill Sharpe
Harry Markowitz.
I got to know the latter two a bit. Markowitz is an old dude, but still damn smart.

An old family friend. Had a degree from John Hopkins and Harvard not sure which was the Doctorate which was his Bach. Still. Absolutely brilliant in every way. He was black, in Gainesville Georgia though. So despite probably being the most intelligent guy in the city, he barely had any clients. They finally moved to Atlanta and now he is a millionaire many times over.

There are several:
1. Most "science" guy was a high school classmate of mine; was actually a couple of years younger than me. He started taking classes at Tulane when he was 11 or 12. Class-wise he was a year behind me, but by the time I graduated, public high school had nothing left for him to take and he graduated in my class of '82 (salutatorian).
Dude has the following degrees: BS (Tulane) and PhD (Cambridge) in Chemical Engineering; MD and PhD in Biomedical Engineering (Johns Hopkins), internships and residencies in general surgery, anesthesiology and critical care medicine.
He's now a doctor at the Mayo Clinic.
2. Smartest "general knowledge" folks I've met were through Jeopardy!. The first was the guy who beat me on Jeopardy!; he won 6 days and was a quarter-finalist on the Tournament of Champions. He's actually a really nice guy; we keep in touch and communicate via email and Facebook sporadically.
The other two are a husband/wife pair who were both on Jeopardy! and both were multi-game winners and in the TOC. We met via the Jeopardy! players Facebook group, and I took them to lunch at Antoine's when they visited New Orleans on vacation... nicest people you'd ever want to meet; husband is a urologist and army reservist; wife is stay-at-home mom. Both smart as all get-out.

There is a neurologist I call on here in Louisiana that is the most intelligent person I have ever known. This man has a photographic memory and remembers everything he has ever seen, heard, read, or learned. This man is so intelligent that other neurologists consult him on difficult cases. The kicker is that he is also total personality. Very funny and interesting and just an all around great guy. Rarely do you find somebody with that level of intelligence and great social skills as well.

Friend of my Dad. His HS didn't offer calculus so he taught it to himself. Graduated from La Tech with a 4.0 and went to work for Lockheed. After he retired he took a part time job at Lowes to have something to do. One thing led to another and now he's their corporate head of IT
