I'll take that for what it is. A guy who gets flustered that another guy on a message board has a more optimistic take on parenthood, and proceeds to call him names because he disagrees.

I'm a parent. A very happy one. But it's not a one size fits all situation.

PK, I'm gonna say it like this. On Liz' last days on earth, I hope that missing out on raising a family isn't a regret. No religion intended, just getting the most from a short stay here.

My sister doesn't want kids and she's happy with her life. I don't think she's any less of a person for it

As much as breeders want to believe theirs are, chances are they aren't. But alas, everyone usually thinks their kids and family are superior and oh so special.

I appreciate the sentiment , I don't have kids. Almost did, lost one. It happens to a lot , not even everyone who wants to have children can or do.

I was able to help raise my nephews who's father died when they were 4 and 2. Maybe that's why things went as they did.

Liz is making a choice, I respect her right to make that choice. She might be free to do other things,

I always said I wanted kids and then had a year or so where I seriously reconsidered this stance. Even though I actually want a child now I've accepted that there are consequences for being a woman my age and waiting to have children. I pray that will not be the case for me, but am trying to be realistic and prepare myself for what happens if I missed my window of opportunity

Serious question......how old are you nurse?

I have wanted kids (mostly a boy) since I can remember. Growing up and even to this day I have an amazing relationship with my dad. I always wanted that.

I eventually married a woman that wanted the same things in life and whose number one goal was to have a wonderful family and kids.

We are now parents of an amazing 5 1/2 month baby boy. Every aspect of being a parent is better than what I ever could imagine it being. And I pity anyone that isn't interested in kids. I know it's your choice and you're happy without them. But you also will never know the feeling of being a parent. And I couldn't imagine not having that feeling in my life.

Oh and also carrying on the family name. My son is the is the ONLY male of his generation with out last name. And I only have one sibling with the name. So he is single handily carrying our last name currently.

You are right.I know a lot of guys that melt and rage because they can't go fishing or drinking with the boys when they want to. I'd say they probably do feel a lot more ambivalent about parenthood than somebody who is 100% committed to parenthood. For me, it was an amazing gift and completely intuitive. I don't have any idea what you or others are struggling with. And I can see that an expression of joy about parenthood would be a bummer if you are cynical or torn about it and how it has negatively effected your life.

37, turn 38 in March....my window is closing fast

As I have younger siblings with mental disabilities.....I am very aware of the risks of downs that drastically increases after the age of 40. Therefore I will only try until my 39th bday. If it doesn't happen by then, I will have to consider adoption at that point. I refuse to do more invasive fertility treatments (IVF).
