re: Why do people (men, mostly) want kids?

I've always wanted kids and don't really understand anyone who does not. I want kids for many reasons. I love kids, first of all. I have many nieces and nephews and they are all awesome. I want to pass along my bloodline and leave a legacy. I want to raise someone, pass in the lessons I have learned in life, learn from them. I want to see my child grow into a responsible adult that contributes to society. I want grandkids I can dote on. I want family that keeps me going as I grow old and retire.

The only lesson OP has learned is that she is an unwanted mistake. (The root of the problem)

I have a gf my age that has had multiple miscarriages. She was just talking about how it was painful sometimes in social situations when people ask a simple question "when are yall having kids". She isn't mad or offended at the people asking or anything, she realizes they are just being curious. She just was talking about how sometimes others don't realize just how painful that question can be.
People can be as clueless AF. Your friend has a lot of class.
I have a friend that has two sons with mental disabilities.
Some knucklehead said to him, "Man, two? What are the odds of that?"

If I was young again and was gonna get married, I would not want kids... The world is gonna suck in 30 years anyway. I would hate to bring a child into the world like that.........

He wants them. We've had lengthy discussions about this(remember we were on the fence on the kid issue for about a year).
We both mentioned we shouldn't be having kids to just please one another.
I want a child and know it will be the most life changing thing to happen to us and that it will change my life forever for the better. But...if I cannot have a child I don't want to end up one of those women who never recovers from it.
My friend I mentioned with the miscarriages. Shortly after her last one a friend of hers found out she was pregnant but didn't want the child and offered for them to adopt to baby. My friend just took her new adopted daughter home this month.
I'm so happy for my friend, this type of situation could not have happened to a better person(I don't think they could have afforded a traditional adoption).

So it is just the desire that makes people unselfish? If you want them but can't have them, you are a saint, but the person who doesn't want them is a POS? And how does one "die alone" if they have a spouse and no children?
Because at some point in time your wife will probably kick you aside for someone who isn't a POS.
By the time you realize what you've missed out on, it'll be too late.

For some people, they don't consider it missing out. That is a subjective valuation. Some people simply don't want children.

Great news and don't be shocked if she ends up pregnant.
I know two couples where this happened within a few months of them getting the baby. Birthday parties 6 months apart.

Nothing wrong with me
She admitted in this thread her mother didn't want her and was about to give her away.

Probably the decision you should have made 20 years ago.

You know what actually made me ask this? (I know you don't care)
Several times this weekend, I encountered children that were going psycho, throwing tantrums, having meltdowns, and either the mother was doing nothing and the father was scrambling to subdue, or neither parent seemed affected. I wondered how they could be unfazed, or if the father was pissed that mom wasn't lending a hand.
I realize I also passed many families where both parents were helping. I just saw some very miserable fathers over the holiday weekend.

The biggest takeaway from this thread.
Not everyone is meant to or wants to be a parent. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. You can still lead a very meaningful, happy life without having children.
Being a parent doesn't guarantee more happiness. You can still have children and grow old and alone.

It's pretty funny watching people with kids trying to convince everyone how great it is. As if we weren't kids once who drove our parents insane sometimes. It's not all good...and it's not all bad. But stop trying to pretend like it's some beautiful fantasy life. If you have 3 kids there's a good chance 2 of them end up being worthless shithead alcoholics or potheads. Especially people in LA, where the majority of the population fits that description.

Having offspring is the secret to life. If you don't have kids all you are doing is making money, spending money, getting older, making, spending, aging... Until you die. Pretty shallow existence.
