Police will be the last Americans to be employeed. So I would say they can pretty much hire anyone they want now.

The mean IQ of college graduates is something like 115 compared to the general population which is 100.

Yeah, maybe 20 years ago. Today? Not so much. Dumber and less common sense is about all most non-STEM college graduates come away with. And debt.

As a current LEO, I'll agree with you that there are some real dumbasses in Law Enforcement. And some are seeking their revenge on people as well. I wish those would be weeded out better. It's a truly unique profession. But it's hindered by multiple aspects. Pay being the main culprit. You can't expect to attract truly great people as a whole while paying them crumbs. And it is more prevalent in the south. I mean around me (not my agency) starting pay for a deputy in my county is around $14 an hour. Insurance is ok, but has doubled in the last 10 years. Couple that with a high stress job and constant criticism from people who talk shite but do not try to do anything to better their community and it loses its luster real fast. Then couple that with shite shifts, court, getting your CEUs in, working nearly everyday to survive it fees like. Then maintaining a life away from work.
