From the Sons of Katie Elder:
"Texas is a woman, she used to say, a big, wild, beautiful woman. You raise a kid to where he's got some size, and there's Texas whispering in his ear and smiling, saying, "Come and have some fun."

Houston is a parking lot. DFW is similarly a hell of highways
And the ATL has such good traffic?

I wouldn't mind Wimberly, but property taxes and home owners insurance wipes out the zero state taxes. Big turnoff.
There is a reason MS and AL are better places to live economically.

I’m a white progressive from California. I feel Texans are racists and didn’t take Covid serious enough. Way too many Trumptards there. I’m moving there because taxes are too high where I live and too many homeless. I hope I can change things while I’m there

Brownsville and the valley in general is nice if you aren't afraid of mexicans. Crime is much lower than the major cities in Texas and probably most towns in Louisiana.

It's more like, once a state legalizes weed, all the potheads (read: liberals) move in.
I smoke weed and I'm not a liberal but I'm also not a pothead.

Waco is shite but there are decent towns in that area (probably an hour plus from Waco)

Waco isn’t a happening place if you aren’t involved with the university. However I will say that places like Mcgregor are a nice place to raise a family.

By bringing your high taxes and homeless with you? There's a reason we don't have those things.

Agreed but a house in TX worth $300K is $500K (or more depending the city) in FL. And the salary gap is about the same.

You mean Tex-Mex? There's more 2nd generation Mexicans than Mexican citizens. I lived in Grand Valley (Harlingen) during the 80's. It's a nice place for kids or retired people, you get very comfortable homes for the money. However, if you don't like the outdoors or sports, it could be boring for the middle aged group.

quote:The state government is run by conservative republicans while the major cities are run by progressive democrats. Most Texans are more moderate or middle of the road than either of those extremes. So I guess there's a place for just about everyone here in Texas.
What about Texas makes it so attractive to both the left and the right?
If you will be working in a major metropolitan area near a big city I would suggest you look at the distant suburbs for a location to live. There are very good school districts located in many of those areas if that is a consideration for you.
