Not the case for Jeep Wranglers. Their resale value is high. I just looked up 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Saharas for sale...many of them selling for 29-33K. I bought mine brand new for 34K.
It’s not the case on the majority of cars an intelligent person would consider buying used. A 30k Honda is not 21k a year later unless is has 100k miles. A more reasonable expectation is 3-8%, but that doesn’t sound as cool on a message board.

Exactly why my last new truck is 17 years old. Priced a new 1 Ton a few years ago, F that noise. A basic 2WD, diesel with a stick is insane.

The exact reason I bought the used car I purchased last week. It has a 6 speed manual and was the only one in the state of Texas.
The dealership didn't have anyone in the maintenance shop who could pull it around after they prepped it for me. My salesman had to go and pull it around.

Let me just call bullshite. I went shop 4Runners three weeks ago for my wife. An equipped 4Runner with leather is 42-45K. That’s no joke.
SR5 Premium starts at $36k. A Limited trim is in the 40s, sure.

2017 Trail OTD 41K. I wanted a TRD Pro but couldn't find one locally. Limited's started in the low 40's IIRC.

I am hopeful Nissan renews the Xterra line in a few years. I am as well a happy owner.

You can add boats to this question as well! Talk about prices getting ridiculous.

The compact SUVs start at 22-24k, just go a little bigger and the price skyrockets well over 30k. I just can’t figure out how 6-12 inches of cargo space cost sooo much money.

Inflation says no.

My wife bought a 6 speed Cooper countryman S (turbo). It's fun to drive. I like manual

3-8? You're ridiculous. A new car drops quite a bit driving it off the lot

Me too.
I went to one of those “fixed price” dealers that never negotiates to look at a used Honda Accord with a manual transmission because I love using a clutch.
I drove it and the sales guy was begging me to buy it. I told him I would think about it and be back with my wife if I wanted it. (Because she would need to drive my current car home).
They took $1500 off (of a $10,000) car and detailed it and delivered it to my house.
Crazy. I love that car too.

The Jeep is a new model. The JL that replaced the JK. Many new features (8 speed auto, backup camera, better nav and Bluetooth) add some to cost but I think the $5,000 or so bump across all lines is steep.

They did a lot more than just add a few gizmos. And like many other posts in this thread, $5k is a bit hyperbolic.

Same here. Mine is paid off with 70k miles. After adding an aftermarket head unit with Car Play and a backup cam I don’t see a reason to buy a new vehicle until it dies. May do an aftermarket remote start soon too.
A new body on frame 4wd SUV would be 40k minimum with those options.

Yes, list not intended to be exhaustive. Just pointing out reason for Jeep increase in particular. Actually the items I mentioned should have been on the JK already.
Oh, and the Germans don't have anything to do with it. When I compare the sticker on my 2017 JKURHR to a comparable JL equipped vehicle, the sticker went up $5,000. Perhaps the sport increase is a little less but still a big bump for gizmos that should have been on there and HR style plastic bumpers. I have not read much about the hardware change much except for some possible improvement to one of the Dana 44's but still not a 60.

Glad to know I'm not the only one picking up these manuals on the cheap

Yeah, but a Wrangler keeps 85% off it's value after five years.

I was gifted a 2000 Chevy Malibu and I will just drive that until the wheels fall off
