That is not correct. In the mid-90s, the murder rate was above 300 per year or 'nearly a murder per day.'
In the last few years, it has been about half that.
Gotcha, there is only about 150 murders a year in U.S, didn't know that.
I wasn't talking strictly NO, btw

If this was meant to offend me, keep trying. A football player died last night and gets a headline... meanwhile there is almost a shooting every night down there that goes unreported by news agencies
Sadly this is true.... Its a shame what happened. Prayers for his family, but We all could make this statement everyday . There is aboundant crime in the country in every big city... All are just as senseless as this one... I just bet that someone else in NOLA has been killed since this happened. But it may be nobdoy knows....

Or you can not take it so damn personally and realize I was responding to the last post in the thread. I was referring to the whole thread, not just your post. Why are you so touchy....jackass?

NO other city could put on Mardi Gras, Jazz
Fest, French Quarter Fest, etc with very few incidents like NO does.

It will probably be a pretty long while before I'm back in Nola due to the homeless and crime.
a little dramatic, huh?

I ain't going nowhere. Forget the homeless and goons I'm here to stay.

Agreed. More and more people are moving to the city all the time. Prices are still going up. The place improves every day

NOLA has been on a nice run since Katrina and this won't change anytime soon.
I hated reading this news this morning. It really sucks!
Just left a restaurant and about to catch the end of FQF today. Then in to a show at the Saenger tonight. Doing my job as always to support NOLA.

I hate it for this man and his family but damn you guys love to broadly generalize an entire city just because of some guy going nuts, huh?

The murder rate, violence and poverty makes me never want to visit NO. Even if it looks like fun its not worth dying over.

Lol. This thread is an abortion. Nola has its problems but the place is better than it was 10 years ago and it ain't even close

Should probably just stay inside the rest of your life.

How did they catch the perp so quickly? Did the dumbass leave the car and they ran his plate?
Posted on 4/10/16 at 3:28 pm to GeorgeTheGreek
He never left the scene

So Smith had just eaten dinner with cop that was sued for killing the shooter's dad.
And the shooter was a star football player that tyrann Mathieu knows.
So this is a hit basically?

Seems to be all speculation at this point, but we have detectives on the board that are solving it as we speak
Posted on 4/10/16 at 3:31 pm to Clint Torres
So he killed smith and just chilled? Im confused because the impala people and Thomas were still there.
Posted on 4/10/16 at 3:32 pm to GeorgeTheGreek
Imo, if you kill someone and are going to claim self defense, you dont flee.
Who knows with this though. The shooter doesnt look like a stand up guy
