I'm simply commenting on the subject of the thread.

That wasn’t a dig at you. I was simply commenting on your neighbor and how we don’t need anymore people who think it was real.

We have enough of that already

No problem. I just wasn't sure what you meant.

Yeah, I don't understand how one can think that wasn't staged to some degree.

I get wanting to fight for your wife's honor and such but the rest just seemed way over the top.

He's sitting and laughing, 20 seconds later he's slapped, not hit, the host and is now seen crying because he's so upset.

And it's not like I don't like the guy but there sure seems like there's more to this "brawl."

LINK

Here is a link to the entire incident. TMZ has a video up of the commercial break. You can see a bunch of security types on the stage and Smith being talked down the entire time.

You would have to be a complete fool to think this was fake. The Academy is a bunch of old white people who have been criticized for excluding blacks and you all think they would be okay with two black men doing this on their stage? There is also the consequences for Rock and Will Smith. Rock will never host the Oscars again and Smith will be the butt of every comedians jokes for the next 20 years. Why would either sign up for this and why would the Academy okay it?

Use your heads people.

Then why'd he laugh while sitting in his chair? Why not get up right then and say, "Ok that's enough."

Why go from laughing to violence to crying within the span of a minute or so?

It makes no sense. Has the guy ever reacted like that before? Regardless of how you feel about him, has he ever behaved that way in public before? Let alone on a tv broadcast when he and everyone else know there are cameras. Heck they can see the camera.

Come on, man.

Because his initial instinct was to laugh it off but then he saw how upset his wife was and it flipped a switch inside him. Instant rage.

Because no one has still given a good explanation why.

"But ratings". Again, if the Academy was this desperate for ratings, they wouldn't have buried it toward the end of the broadcast.

If it was staged, why would they want Will Smith's first Oscar win overshadowed when they could've asked anyone else in the room to play it out?

Will Smith's wife was already joked about at the BAFTAs this year. He already gets a lot of shite for allowing Jada to frick around. He already had issues with Rock for a previous joke about Jada.

Him finally snapping is less believable than the Academy orchestrating a cheap stunt to upstage their biggest night? Nah.

It's fake baw. The new producer (Will Packer) who was brought in to increase the ratings is even hyping it on Twitter: "Welp…I said it wouldn’t be boring"

It was 100% planned to create a viral moment and suckers are falling for it hook, line and sinker.

Where? I saw none of this.

Because they knew they’d get away with it and suffer no real concequences except for some media buzz (even negative press is still press)

Chris Rock will get some Twitter love
Will Smith isn't going to jail and will still get roles
The world will keep spinning

Still, just like the infamous “nipple gate” during the Super Bowl, people will be talking about it for years to come.

Hell, Smith will probably spin this as some stress-related career move that he will need to crawl back from. Everybody loves a redemption story.

And he has such a history of doing that.

He doesn't get to be a celebrity of his stature at this point after 30+ years of losing his cool and throwing hands.

I'm sorry. I don't buy it.

You’re not getting that it was never about this year’s ratings. They knew viewership would be in the toilet this year. Hell, it’s been on the decline for a decade now.

But let’s sprinkle in some chaos this year and that will generate some social media buzz for a few days, and guarantee that more people watch next years show.

They’ve been slowly introducing more “controversy” over time. Think back to the “racism” scandals with nominations followed by a film with more white actors being announced as the winner over a film with a predominantly black cast; then issuing a redaction on stage.

So your next question is…

Why did they wait until the last hour?

Because if it happened too early in the show people would’ve known it was fake.

The Oscars are slowly turning into the VMAs.

I'm not suggesting the Academy orchestrated it but I also don't believe it was a real reaction.

Watch the video again and listen to what Rock says after the GI Jane comment. He says when the crowd is rumbling,"what....thats the nice one". Looks to me like that was what set Smith off. In other words, Rock was subletly putting attention on Jada screwing other dudes and Smith became unhinged.

Again, some of you idiots. No way in hell the Academy would sign up for a Jerry Springer episode. Same with both Rock and Smith. The comments by the new producer of the Oscars means nothing. He is just being a spin doctor to lessen the controverey.
