They have no concept of time and place, decorum or Will’s cuckoldry for that matter. Just pure emotional response

They are too stupid to know Will was just defending his own ego, not his wife's "honor".

Seeing Rock pause for a second and think about treating smith like a heckler at a stand up with all of the infidelity jokes he has in his back pocket that were cut by the producers. I wish he would have gone with that first instinct.

The social media hype machine works that way.
Which is why people pull publicity stunts.

Have you ever laughed at a joke then turned and saw your SO red faced? Her anger drove him. He's under her control.

The Hosts of the Oscar's ROAST the stars the best hosts roast the Stars. Sorry a guy who spent three years telling everyone his wife sleeps with other men and he's fine with it, gets this upset about a bald joke. She's ALWAYS had short trim hair when not in a weave/wig. Maybe he didn't know.

I don’t think it was fake at all. Look at the emotion on Smiths face when he’s telling him to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth.

I mean.. he is an actor.

I’m not sure that was fake. Rocks reaction seemed surprised and the only thing he could say was what happened, if it were staged there should have been a joke inserted. But instead it was just angry yelling by the fresh prince. And I get why people might think it’s fake because of the result (people are talking about it). But you could have had something a bit less confrontational and awkward than what we saw.

Either way it was weird.

I’m guessing y’all think during the commercial break with Will wiping his tears and everyone coming up to him was fake too?

Not everything has to be fake…

Again, more from the "real" crowd literally talking about things actors master in their careers

The biggest fake night of the year celebrating a fake profession that exists to be fake. (acting)

But that part was "real"

Proves it's fake to me. Literally all comedian hosts of the Oscars roast people in the crowd. Hell, it's probably written in the official host playbook. Either that or Will Smith decided he couldnt take one of the most hackiest jokes ever (it wasnt even good or offensive) and risked his entire career and first ever Oscar win over it.

...during the commercial break?

...when the only people witnessing it would have been the only people “in” on the joke?

Since when did Will Smith go hardcore Andy Kaufman?

Yep, it looked real because...they're actors!

Its fake drama so women will tweet about it.

I just saw the 50 second video clip on Twitter and in my personal opinion it seemed real. Should also have prefaced that with I never watch these types of award shows.

The women on my team are more outraged that Chris Rock made the joke than about the slap. Yep.

Outraged that a comedian known for roasting people … roasted someone.

Adds to realism and ratings, I always laugh at this one being the "its definitely not staged" crowd

...when the only people witnessing it would have been the only people “in” on the joke?

Until literally 10 seconds later when it was all over the internet. Let me ask you something, do you think even 10% of the people that saw this event watched it on TV or found clips on the internet?

When a scripted role to generate ratings was planned from the start.

For the “it’s fake” crowd, what is Will Smith’s motivation for being involved in a gimmick?

He was set to get his Oscar; he has more money than he could spend in 10 lifetimes and did not need to get his name out in public any more than it was.

I’ve only seen the clip one time, so I don’t know if it looks fake or not; I don’t see the motivation for Smith.

I doubt that was the first time Chris Rock was hit for telling a Joke. It just probably hasn't happened to him in 25+years.

I bet those same women said Jada was such a strong woman for being able to sit next to her husband for a nationally televised interview and admit to him and the world that she'd been fricking other dudes

Goddamn, the smug self-satisfaction of this and all the other conspiracy theories peddled on this board and site and general.

The “stunt” happened with 30-40 minutes left scheduled in the show. Why wait until that moment to pull a publicity stunt?

Oh, and to anticipate your answer of “Well, they are setting up for high ratings next year!” Ain’t no one going to remember this fight a week from now. We’ll be on to something else.
